Blame Obama for Sky-High Unemployment
Fox News ^ | November 10, 2009 | John R. Lott Jr.

Posted on 11/10/2009 7:42:47 PM PST by JohnRLott

This wasn't supposed to happen. At the end of February, after the $787 billion stimulus was approved, the Obama administration predicted that unemployment would average only 8.1 percent this year. Indeed, in February the unemployment rate stood at 8.1 percent. Yet, unemployment now stands at 10.2 percent and keeps rising.

There is also another, wider unemployment measure seldom mentioned. When you count the unemployed who have become so discouraged that they have given up looking for work or have only accepted a part-time job, our country now has an unemployment rate that stands at a staggering 17.5 percent. Confirming these other numbers, the Bureau of Labor Statistics Household Survey finds that 3.5 million jobs have been lost since February. And it is also worth noting that the nation's unemployment rate has also been rising much faster than in other countries.

On October 30, President Obama claimed that massive government spending programs had already created or saved 640,239 jobs. The spin the administration is putting on this is that the 3.5 million jobs lost would have been 4.1 million without any government intervention.

Not too surprisingly, . . . .

If you look at the unemployment figures, they jumped right after the November election and it was a direct reaction to 0bama being elected. Rush pointed it out at the time. It’s gone up steadily for the past year.

obama lying again. While the government can track job creation reasonably well, it has absolutely no way to track jobs "saved." Therefore any number qualified as "created or saved" is pure fantasy.

The Obama administration knew back in March unemployment would exceed ten percent.

The unemployment numbers are inherently misleading. They always adjust to reflect an estimate of the number of people seeking work. I believe it's far more illustrative to observe the "Employment to Population Ratio". On the attached chart it shows an uncanny relationship to both the start and end of recession.

One sobering aspect of the chart is that the last time the "EPR" was this low was in 1983 - but then it was trending strongly upward. As of last month, we're still in a nose dive.

emp/pop

Although the graph is pretty clear, I've explained it more thoroughly at:

John Lott is a smart guy but what he is saying here should be core curruculum for every high school student. It is ever obvious that no journalist in either the print or broadcast media has ever taken a basic course in economics.

Planned government education?

"Therefore any number qualified as "created or saved" is pure fantasy."

However, it's an extremely slick piece of propaganda, and therefore a success, at least to those who value propaganda. Think about it, those two little words "or saved" allow you to make up any statistic you want and there's no way to disprove it. These people are diabolically clever.

Only problem is, when someone gets thrown out of work, those two little words don't really help much anymore. People are starting to notice, I think.

Blame Obama for Sky-High Unemployment?

Let's see, The...ahem..."stimulus"

The ..."budget"

and the to-do list...

Healthcare confiscation

Cap and Confiscate

Card Check Union takeover...

there's more, but no sane person (repeating, NO SANE PERSON) would hire anybody in today's business-hostile government environment.

.

Is Obama to blame for sky-high UNemployment?

Oui.

There are only two dots to connect.

I think you're right. About the time they're hitting the unemployment line it will hopefully dawn on them "Hey, obama said he'd make things better. His failed economic policies just cost me my job - HE LIES!" Happening to thousands of Americans every week.

I’d like to see a third indicator on that graph, indicating when a democratic congress was in power.

One of my girls was pro obamba. Then for a couple of weeks she was getting checks for $50-$80 as things slowed down. “Yep, Thanks to Obama I am getting an extra $75 a month in my unemployment checks. BUT I WOULD RATHER HAVE A &*(^&*% JOB!” was her comment. I am sure she has heard the same thing from some others that are working on the docks.

It is so easy to figure out who has done the most damage to the unemployment. Look at unemployment in January 2001 and January 2009 and see what happened with unemployment under President Bush and then look at January 2009 to November 2009 and see how President Obama is doing. Of course we would have to continually adjust the numbers as Obama has until January 2013. I think that is the easiest and best way to figure this out.

Just in case there might be someone, somewhere on Planet Earth, who hasn’t yet realized that the Bozo curently in the White House is THE worst president in the entire history of the republic... by FAR.
