NEW YORK -- A former editor for the New York Post has sued the newspaper, saying she was fired for labeling as racist a cartoon that critics said likened President Barack Obama to a dead chimpanzee.
Sandra Guzman sought unspecified damages in the discrimination lawsuit, filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Manhattan. The lawsuit said she had worked at the newspaper as associate editor since July 2003, repeatedly receiving glowing performance evaluations.
The cartoon was published in February and referred to the killing two days previously of the violent chimpanzee by Connecticut police. It depicted the carcass of the chimp and two police officers with the caption: "They'll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill."
The lawsuit said Guzman was subjected to a hostile work environment in which women and minority employees were continually subjected to discrimination and hostility.

Hopefully this will be laughed out of court and she’ll discover what the First Amendment actually means.
She sounds like a wise Latina.
So ... SHE made the connection from chimp to Obama, and thus the cartoon is racist.
Got it.
The quality of political and newsy cartoons in the Post has gone way down in recent years, almost to a sophomoric level
A recent one this past summer had Lou Gehrig smashing his baseball bat on a television set with the news that Derek Jeter had just broken his all time Yankees record for hits, at 2227 .... what was astonishing to everyone else except this cartoonist is that that Gehrig was a class act who would *never* behave in such a manner out of sheer jealousy .. the Post cartoonist was *way* off base on that one
This one with the Cop shooting a Chimp is similar ... just not funny, but sophomoric and stoopit ...
So many people believe in evolution but then it’s considered racist to make a connection between a man and an ape? She should use this as her defense.
Ironically, a lot like Obama. Maybe that's the 'connection' the readers made.
She’s done some really great (and un-PC) cartoons. I can’t believe they fired her. I’m a big fan.
A totally ignorant cartoon caption, if it refers to Zero.
Zero votes "present". Pelosi and Reid and the rest of the scum write stimulus bills.
Zero helps to sell the stimulus bills, it is true. However, TOTUS (look to the left, speak, look to the right, speak) remains in campaign mode, bereft of fresh material, and the sheeple are increasingly finding him tedious.

Who is that poor, dead ape?
This cartoon refers to the Connecticut chimpanzee who was shot and killed by police after it mauled its owner last February. I suppose the idea is that the mysterious author of the idiotic stimulus bill was FINALLY located, and it turns out to have been a chimp. OK, the cartoon is not terribly funny, but the dead chimp in the cartoon was clearly intended to represent the dead Connecticut chimp. The chimp does not represent Barack Obama, who after all didn't write the stimulus bill (or anything else, but that's another story.) The chimp bears no resemblance to Obama -- the face and body are completely different. Obama is slim, while the cartoon chimp and the Connecticut chimp are both fat:

Travis the Connecticut Attack Chimp
To see the cartoon chimp as Obama, you have to be a liberal who is desperate to see racism where there is none.
On the other hand, here is one of the dozens of "Bush as a chimp" cartoons:

Chimpy McHaliburton Bushitler
No ambiguity here, the reference is crystal clear.
who was shot > that was shot
Absolutely!
Clearly, that resemblance is more akin to Michelle... not up to the sasquach level, but close.
Just saying.
Of course NO ONE is stating the obvious, Obama did not write the stimulus bill...so anyone that assumes this is about Obama is just plane ignorant.
OOOOPS! that's ...so anyone that assumes this is about Obama is just PLAIN ignorant.
I suggest you not read the NY Post, there are plenty of other rags to rag about.
the post is a great paper filled with fine, patriotic writers.
If it does not get laughed out of court, there are going to be a lot of rich conservatives who are constantly subject to liberalism’s job discrimination.
