ABC's Whitney Lloyd reports from New York:
Fort Hood where 13 soldiers were killed and 34 more shot by a fellow soldier yesterday is at the forefront of an Army experiment to combat the emotional assault of war on soldiers.
Major Nidal Malki Hasan, an Army psychiatrist who had treated soldiers suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, unleashed his own frustration and fear of an upcoming deployment to Afghanistan in a hail of bullets at Fort Hood one of only two Army bases participating in a newly launched program to train soldiers in emotional resiliency.
Opened just last month, the Fort Hood Resiliency Campus is the Armys first such facility. It stretches across a city block on the 340-square mile base, complete with such resort-like amenities as a rock climbing wall, yoga studio, juice bar and classrooms where soldiers are taught to be mentally tough.
Using psychological techniques developed at the University of Pennsylvania, soldiers are trained in weekly 90-minute classes to defuse habitual, frustrating ways of thinking that can add to soldiers stress.
One training exercise the program uses is that of an unanswered phone call home when deployed. Rather than assume that an unanswered call means their wife is cheating on them, soldiers are taught to recalibrate their thoughts and realize that their wife is most likely busy with their children.
These techniques of mentally disputing irrational thoughts were originally developed for middle and high school students and have been successful in reducing stress and raising students grades.

I have to wonder if he was even board certified? Becoming an MD is the easy part, it is everything that comes after wards which is tough.
Recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties, Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists and Boards of Certification, the American Board of Multiple Specialties in Podiatry, or Council on Podiatric Medical Education.

He appears to have been too busy studying Islam to learn much about psychiatry. What a cruel joke.
What does the MPH stand for on the card?
This was a cold-blooded premeditated religious mass murder ritual he conducted. No ‘snapping’ involved.
A RESEARCH PROJECT? For what, tips on counseling and slide shows?
FBI: Hasan contacts with AQ part of a research project
"The FBI determined that the e-mails did not warrant an investigation, according to the law enforcement official. Investigators said Hasans e-mails were consistent with the topic of his academic research and involved some social chatter and religious discourse."
But it MIGHT explain why he targeted those who were suppose to go to afghanistan with him??
medical corp, the promotion to Major was probably tied to completion of training and certification.
I hate the idea of allowing this man to treat psych patients. There are other types of wounds besides gunshots. A bad psychiatrist is worse than a bad surgeon, lots of scars, harder to diagnose and cure.
Masiers of Public Health
Earned per this entry on the "Education" tab:

That was where he gave an impassioned talk on Islam during a class on environmental health. A classmate objected to the instructor, asking "What does this have to do with environmental health?" and the instructor responded something to the effect, "I'll let him continue."
PC run amuck.
Good grief. This is the official line now, I guess. It makes me sick.
That should be Masters of Public Health.
Here is a link about some of the info on that card that will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up:
This, ‘even though the horse is out of the barn, we should still fill his oat bucket’ type of thinking is ridiculous!
I say, let's look for ways to make even finer and more soothing ceremonies for when this happens again.
The FBI didn't think that needed investigation either. Had they acted then maybe 911 would have been prevented.
And to potlatch for making the pic bump!
Thanks Kim, sorry, I just work so hard on them.
Thnx, had no idea what the MPH stood for..and I should have clicked on the educ tab. The more we learn about this case, including the lack of compassion by the administration, the lack of determination to be proactive, I fear it really will get worse before it gets better.
No I’m sorry! To explain: I just remembered ernest asking you for it on the other thread...I wouldn’t have known about it if not for him...I absolutely know how hard you work on them, and have always appreciated them. I love your work. :-)
[I love your work]
I appreciate that more than you know.
It’s what I do, my gifs are ‘my little children’ now, lol!
It seems that Major Traitor Husan’s idea of “treatment” was to kill them. What a traitorous jihidi!
