Prosecutors rested their capital murder case against Curtis Lavelle Vance, 29, after testimony from the state's deputy medical examiner, who spoke about Pressly's final moments of consciousness.
Vance, of Marianna, has pleaded not guilty to murder, rape and burglary. If convicted, he could face the death penalty. Dr. Stephen Erickson said an examination of Pressly's body after her death revealed that her face shattered "like an egg" during the attack. "I could feel crunchiness" while examining Pressly's face, he said. A photo he used showed her nose pushed to one side.
Erickson said some type of object likely was used during the attack — the butt of a pistol or perhaps some type of club.
Pressly, the co-host of a morning TV show who had a bit part in the President Bush biopic "W," was hit so hard that a tooth — root intact — flew to her bedroom floor. Another blow crushed bones in the middle of her face. Another shoved her jaw

I'd like to retract my post. The death penalty is surely justified here. However, how we implement it speaks to how WE value human life, and the dignity that we place upon it - even if the low-life scum perp places none.
Let a just society find that he is not fit to live among us, nor even live among our prison population. But then let the method of execution speak to the fact it's a just punishment, and not an opportunity for us to lower ourselves to his scummy level.
It’s not about “lower ourselves to his scummy level”, it’s about delivering justice on behalf of his victim!
Where I'm coming from on that post was looking at my own earlier writing, and realizing that it crossed from justice way over into vengeance. Justice is our department down here on the ground. Vengeance is the Lord's.
The perp is filth, but human filth. Dispose of him, but properly, as a good human-life respecting culture should.
But thats only my non PC opinion.
He should next be duped into sitting in the electric "recliner" down the hall from his Death Row cell to watch the football game. I call dibs on pulling the switch!

I would like to commend you on your retraction, your last comments indicate that you have given the matter serious consideration. The death penalty should be a remedy for someone who has forfeited his right to life by depriving others of theirs.
The death penalty has become capricious and justice is far from swift... we need to do a much better job of administering it. The administration of justice is not perfect (it sometime snares innocent people) but that can’t be an excuse for not administering it... that is a far worse transgression.
i’m so glad there is no truth to the black man on white women violent crime myth. the one where black men are 2000 times more likely to rape a white woman than a white man is to rape a black woman

NO, there are some crimes that demand the ultimate penalty, which is death. In our entire history we have administered the death penalty in a quick and dispassinate fashion, that is the way it should be. What you are advocating is revenge (which is full of fury and rage), not justice,

This is what really happens when their is a violent blow to the face and head. Bones crush and shatter like an egg. Movie entertainment rarely shows the true extent of the damage done by a punch to the jaw or a blow to the skull.
This is the kind of murderous animal that the anti-death penalty crowd gets so excited about. This killer deserves no mercy and an expedited date for execution

How do you know he wasn’t teased? How do you know he wasn’t harassed because of his faith? I don’t think we should jump to any conclusions here.
You may wish to consider that there are some crimes so hideous, vicious, and some perpetrators so ruthless that they abandon their right to be called "human being".
This individual needs to be destroyed right down to his dna.

If we impale this guy and leave his carcass on display at the city limits then it might just deter the next such animal.
