WASHINGTON The Human Rights Campaign, the nations largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, issued the following statement today on the American Medical Associations (AMA) announcements regarding LGBT rights. AMA members voted to join the effort to repeal the militarys Dont Ask, Dont Tell policy and declared that bans on same-sex marriage result in health disparities for LGBT couples and families.

When did the AMA turn into a communist organization?
With the poor judgment calls the AMA has made lately, I think I’ll ask any doctor I see if he belongs to that group, and I’ll see whether he tells me.
[coughBullsh#tcough]
Most of my neighbors are doctors and have nothing but disdain for this organization.
Can someone explain Don’t Ask - Don’t Tell for me? I have never really understood this but thought it was to make the gay/lesbian community happy.
They need to stick to diagnosing ailments, prescribing medicine and golfing; and stay the HELL out of issues such as whether homos can get married.
Obtuse sarc off....
It appears that the AMA has political opinions on the price of tea in China.
Fill in the blank - American _______ Association, and you will find a liberal political organization, rather than a professional organization. Examples, besides Medical, are Bar, Library, Psychological. I’m sure there are others.
The AMA can KMA.
The AMA must be giving itself a colonoscopy with their head.
A real human rights campaign would seek to protect the rights of the individual including children who survive abortion and are born alive only to be left dying for hours under their own lungpower in a closet somewhere in a hospital.
This is why 3 out of 4 doctors do not belong. As conservative docs like myself quit, the AMA moved ever farther to the left. Most of the docs left are academics, administrators and government employees.
Does Bawney Fwank listen to these quacks?
Don't forget to include the homosexual members who seek to change public policy through "new" positions.
It was a shield policy to keep them from being discharged strictly for being homosexual. "We won't investigate, and you won't declare it..." This same Sgt. Schulz position led us to accepting and promoting jihadists within the ranks.
I think all gays in the military should ID themselves as such. So should Islamic Jihadists. Heck, they should all bunk together. What a happy bunch they’d be!
Ya, what do laws regarding gays in the military or defining marriage have to do with the practice of medicine???????
I was surprised to see the AMA weigh in on these issues. But since they did weigh in, I see it was on the liberal side.
Just wondering, what is the AMAs opinion on “Gay Bowel Syndrone”? Anybody know?
Talk about sticking your nose in where it doesn’t belong. The AMA is bucking the NEA for the most socialist, useless organization...AARP close behind.
Guess who’s running the AMA...
Not surprising.
In 2008, by their own numbers, the AMA represented about 29 percent of licensed U.S. doctors. In fact it is more like about 17 percent in 2009.
According to a recent FReeper post, the AMA only represents about 27% of doctors. Down from 90% 50 years ago.
As an MD, can you define ‘health disparity?”
Not all doctors agree with AMA support of bill

I have practiced medicine in Las Vegas since 1972, and I believe the American Medical Associations support of the current Democratic health care legislation in Congress is outrageous. I have, therefore, canceled my membership to the AMA after having been a member for 29 years.
At present only 17 percent to 19 percent of physicians belong to the AMA. At no time have either I or any other members of the AMA to my knowledge been polled regarding our position or thoughts on this important legislation.
Thus the implication that the AMA represents anyone, let alone the majority of physicians, is really a fraud. Frankly, this bill is a disaster for our senior citizens, which should be a matter of great concern to those who rely on Medicare for their health care.
Non-Political entities should remain NON-POTICAL entities, eh AMA?
I think the AMA is like a union for doctors. Most doctors don’t belong. Especially the good doctors.
In the AMA’s context it means gays and lesbians can’t get on each others policies as spouses. Then again neither can my dog.
FYI, only 18 percent of all physicians in the US belong to the AMA. Check Google or Clusty for this information

This doesn’t have a damn thing to do with being a doctor.
Go away AMA.
Must be OB-AMA.
"One issue I want to clarify concerns President Clintons dont ask, dont tell, dont pursue military policy. I believe that the Clinton compromise was a step in the right direction. I am also convinced that it is the first of a number of steps that will ultimately lead to gays and lesbians being able to serve openly and honestly in our nations military. That goal will only be reached when preventing discrimination against gays and lesbians is a mainstream concern, which is a goal we share."
Sincerely, W. Mitt Romney
So marriage will stop them from getting and transmitting AIDS?
I’ll concede they have the right to be queer.
What I won’t concede is their contention that I have to “celebrate” it.
I don’t approve. Tough.
Homosexual activity is hardly healthy, rather, it is strongly connected to many illnesses. Physicians should encourage their patients with homosexual proclivities to abstain.
I will never understand how someone can engage in such a filthy, perverted sexual act.
I tend to believe a good bit comes from that “If it feels good, do it” mantra of the last generation.
Hmm, *last generation* makes it sound as though I’m referring to Gen-X’ers, I mean the sixties crowd more than anything else.
That is very true! I don’t understand how people can be so ignorant.Doing cocaine feels good too,but that does not mean you should do it.(I’ve never used it;it’s not a good idea.I just like to use it as a reference). How people can mess their lives up w/that stuff is beyond my comprehension.
I was born in ‘76 but I have a good idea about what went on in those days. Those people are paying for it now, though.(If they can even remember what they did).
