Sitting up and smiling: First picture of heroine of Fort Hood who took down gunman...
Daily Mail ^

Posted on 11/11/2009 1:21:59 PM PST by traumer

Days ago she was on the verge of death after losing half the blood in her body during a furious shootout with the Fort Hood gunman.

But as she sits smiling in her hospital bed, Sergeant Kimberley Munley looks as if she has made a miraculous recovery.

The slightly built policewoman was the first on the scene after army psychiatrist Major Nidal Malik Hasan went on a murderous rampage, killing 13 of his fellow soldiers.

Fort Hood

Hasan was finally brought down by four shots, fired by Sgt Munley despite being wounded in both legs.

One of the shots cut an artery in her leg, leaving blood pumping out but she still managed to keep firing before collapsing.

As Miss Munley was lauded by US Defence Secretary Robert Gates, Barack Obama attended a memorial service at Fort Hood where he denounced the 'twisted logic' that led to the shooting.

Speaking to a crowd of 15,000 servicemen, the US president urged Americans to never forget the the men and women who had died in the massacre.

'No faith justifies these murderous and craven acts; no just and loving God looks upon them with favour,' the President said.

'And for what he has done, we know that the killer will be met with justice - in this world and the next.' The President and the first lady Michelle Obama met privately with family members of those killed and wounded to offer their condolences.

Thousands of people - including those wounded in the attack - paid their respects in front of a moving tribute to the victims: 13 pairs of combats boots each with an inverted rifle topped with a helmet.

Why do we have to go to a British Newspaper to get these Stories? What does that say about our media?

She too was a soldier before she became a cop. And she's married to a soldier as well.

On the other hand, imagine the blood loss of the monster and that most likely Christian American blood was transfused into him and kept him alive.

Mark Todd did some initial interviews but from what I understand, he has been pretty silent since then. I don’t believe he was injured which is why the attention is going to Munley who kept chasing Hasan after she was shot. Todd, however, is the one who actually disarmed Hasan after he was down.

Just like the Clinton Years.

Todd, however, is the one who actually disarmed Hasan after he was down.

I b'lieve the DoD's own statement said it was Todd's shooting that put the clown down. Kim was already down, and Hassan was up and shooting at Todd. Todd ordered Hassan to drop the weapon, took him down with four shots, then kicked away the perv's, um, perp's gun and cuffed him. It looks as if a big white guy doesn't easily qualify for hero treatment in the SRM.

If that last account is the accurate one, that's still not to say Kim didn't act heroically, or that her sacrifice wasn't essential for taking out the loon. Or that her tatoo and family aren't cool. As I recall, she fired at the jihad-monkey while Todd went around and flanked him.

Glad to get Todd’s out there. He guess he iskeeping quiet because Munley drew the fire to her. Wonder if she was ridding shotgun and he was driving. My guess is that one of the bullets in the perps is his. IAC, this is wild west stuff. Both deserve medals.

As I recall, she fired at the jihad-monkey while Todd went around and flanked him.

Todd did not know it she had hit the jihaddi or not. Others say she did. As you say, she was down by the time Todd got around the corner.

But they were partners, and took him down as a team, irregardless of whose gun or guns the rounds that hit him came from.

My understanding is that they ran to the scene from nearby where they were working traffic for a graduation ceremony for those whose "regular" ceremony took place while they were deployed. Many of them, including the medic who treated both Munley and Hasan, ran to the aide of their fellows.
