Details About Palin's Meeting With Wisconsin Guv Candidate [Scott Walker]
Time.com ^ | Nov. 11, 2009 | Mark Halperin

Posted on 11/11/2009 4:50:07 PM PST by Al B.

After Sarah Palin spoke to 4,000 people at a Wisconsin Right-to-Life event last Friday night, she met for thirty minutes with Scott Walker, the Milwaukee County executive and the Republican frontrunner for governor in 2010. With incumbent Democrat Jim Doyle not seeking re-election, Walker is favored by many GOP powerbrokers to win the September primary next year and perhaps beat whomever the Democrats nominate.

In a room at the fabled Pfister Hotel in downtown Milwaukee (just a block from where Jerry Seinfeld had lunch earlier that day at Zarletti), Walker made the case to Palin and a few of her aides about why she should endorse him.

Walker is well-connected for a local pol, with ties to many former Bush administration officials and Fred Malek, a major Republican fundraiser who helped McCain raise money and has remained close to Palin since the 2008 campaign ended. Malek and other mutual friends helped set up Walker's unusual session with Palin, who has mostly avoided such political meetings as she prepares for her book tour that starts next week. Among those expected to help Walker are former Florida governor Jeb Bush and Newt Gingrich.

--SNIP--

Palin said she was going to focus on her book tour through December, but planned to turn to politics and helping party candidates starting in January. Her aide, Jason Recher, another former Bush aide, asked Walker what kind of help he would like from Palin. Walker pointed out that the state's late primary and the likelihood that the White House would raise a lot of campaign cash for its side meant he needed help as soon as possible next year. Walker urged Palin to come on board and do an event with him in the state's Fox Valley area.

Judging by the references he gets in this article, I hope she refrains from endorsing him. He sounds like another big tent RINO.

Is Mark moonlighting at TMZ (or at Time)?

I don't know anything about this guy, but if Malek's backing him, then count on Sarah to endorse him since Malek is also her behind-the-scenes patron as well.

The real news here is that this is the first reported instance of a GOP politician going to her and making his case in person as to why she should endorse him.

Consider the implications of THAT!

Far from it...Scott Walker is one of the few bright spots of common sense effective conservative leadership here in Wisconsin--he will have a tough time cleaning up the horrible mess left by the present disaster of a governor but if there is someone who can do it, it will be Scott.

P.S. TO Newt - keep your endorsement and keep away...

Palin, tired from a long day, engagingly asked Walker what his campaign slogan is, who is involved in his bid, and why he is running for governor

Check out THIS story, FRiends...!

He sounds like another big tent RINO.

Walker is a solid conservative Republican who happens to be County Executive of the most 2nd liberal county in Wisconsin.

From the article:

Her aide, Jason Recher, another former Bush aide, asked Walker what kind of help he would like from Palin.

Need to point out that this is the other guy from the McCain campaign (along with Randy Scheunemann) that was willing to go ON THE RECORD to defend Sarah from the 'anonymous' smears.

He's not a RINO. He's a good guy, conservative fiscally and socially. He attended the State GOP convention in May and he spoke passionately about getting Wisconsin back on the right track. He won the straw poll with 93 percent or so of the vote. Scott Walker's campaign site

Is this part of the groundwork to restore the Republic? I’m hoping for that kind of change, change I really can believe in. It’s long overdue.

He is not a RINO - first hand knowledge, went to college with him. He’s the only thing that has kept Milwaukee county’s taxes from going through the roof the last 7 years.

Yep, and I find it very encouraging that she actually has some professional aides, who are loyal to HER and no one else, now traveling along and helping vet the pols who come hat in hand asking for her help.

You are wrong! Walker is a conservative. I have meet him several times and work for his campaign.

Did you look up his extensive record in bringing conservatism to Milwaukee County government, a miracle in itself, or did you make that off the cuff comment just to be a jerk?

Sarah Palin knows exactly what she is doing and is spot on
She is supporting those who are quality with a chance to win.

For those who wanted her out earlier running around missed the point. She has been speaking out with speeches, several articles a week and now moving in.

The WannaBees have gone around flaping their arms with nothing to say but look at me. They are old news before
it starts.

Yes, I found that very interesting. Kinda like going to the godfather and asking for his approval.

Are we witnessing the birth of a new conservative leader? I think so.

Question 1: Where are the articles about candidates making pitches for the endorsement of Romney or Huckleberry?

Question 2: Doesn’t this smart politician know that the Mitt-bots and the Huck-bots think Sarah’s endorsement is a losing proposition since she resigned her office before the end of her term?

Question 3: When the Palin Inauguration occurs 1/21/2013, will the aforementioned bots still be back-biting over Palin’s resignation, or her perceived “sharpness” on the issues?

Did you look up his extensive record in bringing conservatism to Milwaukee County government, a miracle in itself, or did you make that off the cuff comment just to be a jerk?

I made the statement based on this: "Among those expected to help Walker are former Florida governor Jeb Bush and Newt Gingrich.

These are RINOs. The conclusion was a natural one. The only jerk in all this is you for being so stupidly rude.

Thanks for the info. I never heard of the man and the reference to Gingrich and Jeb Bush was what triggered my questioning him being a RINO. I’m glad to hear he’s not.

I, too, groaned when I saw the names “Newt Gingrich” and “Jeb Bush” ... and you’re right, it is nice to see local FReepers reassurances that Walker isn’t a RINO.

I love Paul Ryan. I’d be willing to put him on the ticket with Palin. He always tells you exactly what his position is. He doesn’t talk in circles like huck and romney do. The GOP should put him out in front every time the media wants an answer from the GOP on policy.

Relax, everybody has jumped to conclusions on FR at one time or another.

I have family in Wisconsin and they think both Walker and Ryan are real conservatives and have bright futures.

Palin seems to have a strong core group of politicos to give her guidance...that’s great news because there are sharks in those waters.

Be prepared for shark attacks next week from the usual lib media, RINOs etc once the book tour gets underway.
