There are actually a good number of Baptist, AME and other largely African-American churches in DC that are opposed to the gay marriage bill. Of course, no self-respecting lib would bring that up. It’s easier to bash the Catholic Church.
Her name sounds Irish and one might suppose she has a RC background so this is rebelling against the faith of her youth. Being gay and supporting gay issues is more important than race, gender, ethnicity, religion or anything else.
