Behind the House Health Care Vote

Where was the American people's representation on health care reform in Washington on Saturday night? Or better, why did our representatives in Washington move so hastily to advance an inclusive health care reform bill that will permanently alter 1/6th of our economy and affect every citizen when most Americans don't support it?
Despite the fact that the bill that was introduced only eight days earlier, has 1,990 pages (and nearly as many words as Tolstoy's War and Peace), House majority leader Steny Hoyer and Speaker Nancy Pelosi strong-armed 220 votes in favor of the "Affordable Healthcare for America Act" (HR3962). That includes one vote from a Republican in name only: Joseph Cao of Louisiana.
Sen. Ben Nelson Won't Address Constitutionality Forcing Americans to Buy Health Insurance (Edited)

Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) told CNSNews.com that because he is not a constitutional scholar he was not going to be able to answer that question of where specifically the Constitution authorizes Congress to mandate that individuals purchase health insurance.
Specifically, where in the Constitution does Congress get its authority to mandate that individuals purchase health insurance? CNSNews.com asked Nelson.
Well, you know, I dont know that Im a constitutional scholar, said Nelson. So, I, Im not going to be able to answer that question.
The senator then turned away to answer another reporters question.
Both House and Senate versions of the health care bill would require that Americans buy health insurance.
Buy Pelosi-Care Approved Insurance Or Go To Jail

In a sudden reversal, Majority Leader Harry Reid has moved to begin Senate debate on Pelosi-Care on Tuesday... and according to Pelosi-Care, if you refuse to buy a Pelosi-approved health care plan... you could go to jail
Can it be true? Will you be forced to purchase an Obama-Pelosi-approved health care plan... a plan that will ration care to our elderly... a plan that will give you fewer choices... a plan that will lower the quality of care you receive... at a bare-minimum of 15,000 dollars a year, or go to jail?
You better believe it... under Pelosi-Care (the evil spawn of ObamaCare) you will be forced to accept an Obama-Pelosi-approved health care plan or risk penalties as severe as fines of up to 250,000 dollars or jail time of up to five years.
Congressman Dave Camp, the Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee just issued a shocking press release which outlines the findings of the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) on Pelosi-Care.
And the content of this JCT analysis is chilling.

Power is draining from Obama. If he cant get his Bill through he will be at best another Clinton, at worst another Carter
A funny thing happened in Ida Grove, Iowa, last Saturday. Funny and a bit sad. Steve King missed his sons wedding. The weather was perfect. The traffic was light. Steve really loves his son, Mick, and has no problem with his new wife, Stephanie. He wanted to be there and could have been, but instead he was in Washington voting against a healthcare reform Bill in the House of Representatives. Despite his vote, the Bill passed.
What was Mr King thinking? Did he miss the most important day in his sons life because he believes the Democrats are wrong to try to extend health insurance cover to the 46 million who lack it, or because he thinks they are going about it the wrong way? He did not. As a fellow Republican with more in the way of name recognition said yesterday: This is not about healthcare. This is about power and political control.

Its very fair to send people who disregard the federal mandate to buy health insurance to prison, Nancy Pelosi says, because otherwise theyll assault citizens
with a bill for medical services
or something.
Apparently, the occasionally unhealthy have become such a security risk that we need to imprison them for opting to pay their own way. Infidels Are Cool has the key exchange::

The only Republican to vote for the House Democrats' health care reform bill said he voted his conscience, putting aside concerns about the cost in hopes of providing health care access to all Americans.
Rep. Anh "Joseph" Cao of Louisiana said he cast "a very difficult vote" on Saturday, when the House passed the bill 220-215, just over the 218 required for passage.
"But at the end of the day I have to vote on the needs of my district down here in New Orleans and vote according to my conscience," Mr. Cao said in an inte

We need to be vigilant in investigating the ramifications of the Pelosi Health Care Bill. Some provisions sound so outrageous as to be considered impossible to fathom, but theyre right there in the bill in black and white. For instance, page 297 of the bill explains the punishment for not purchasing government mandated health insurance. If you dont buy what the government considers acceptable health care coverage, youre going to be hit with a tax of at least 2.5% of your income. And if you dont pay that new tax, you could be fined as much as $250,000 and sentenced to up to five years in prison.

As D-Day for health care reform approaches, were hearing a lot of contradictory claims about how things are going in countries where they have socialized medicine. One side says Canadian, British, German, and even (in the more extreme cases) Cuban health care is wonderful. The other side says its a catastrophe. All these directly conflicting claims arent very helpful to those who might be in doubt about the truth.
Instead of seeking our evidence in far-flung corners of the world, why dont we look at whats happened to the one profession weve already socialized right here at home? The government school monopoly gives us a great opportunity to examine what happens to a profession when you dragoon it into government service.

While the House Democrats spent the week congratulating themselves for squeezing out the midnight passage of their version of health care reform, neutral observers were reminding them: You've left the job half-done.
Having watched Hillary and Bill Clinton try and fail even to bring their version of health reform to a vote, I can certainly join in saluting Speaker Nancy Pelosi, her leadership team and the Obama White House for maneuvering the 1,990-page behemoth to harbor.

Last summer, a senatorial "Gang of Six" met to negotiate legislation to remake the U.S. health-care system. This winter, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will need a posse of 60 to pass it. But already, a handful of renegades are threatening to hold the bill hostage -- and maybe even kill it.

Given the recent announcement that the government's measure of unemployment has hit 10.2 percent, and given that the official House version of Obama's healthcare plan, HR 3962, has now passed, a close examination of the effects of "Obamacare" on the labor market is important. It will be no surprise to readers of this site to learn that the Democrats' bill will seriously harm precisely those poor and uninsured citizens it is ostensibly designed to help. The harm will come by compounding mass unemployment and depriving these citizens of consumption choices.

Supporters of the House health care bill who tout the American Medical Association's endorsement fail to mention that the AMA no longer represents the majority of American doctors or that it frequently backs left-wing policy proposals.
There was a brief flash of the old AMA earlier this week when the organization's House of Delegates reconsidered the resolution endorsing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's monstrosity, H.R. 3962. Unfortunately, the resolution was voted down by a wide margin. As a result, the AMA continues to back the health care legislation passed in the House last weekend.

Clearly something must be up with the AARP. Why else would the nation's largest lobbying organization, sworn to protect the interests of senior citizens, watch silently as Congress plans to cut Medicare spending by $400 billion to pay for its health reform legislation?
Could it be that the interests of seniors and the AARP are not exactly aligned?
Laura Ingraham said on her show today that she would go to jail, and they can’t put all of us in jail.
