Posted on 11/12/2009 10:37:21 PM PST by Justaham
White House Counsel Greg Craig is expected to announce on Friday that he plans to step down from his post following a rocky tenure, people familiar with the matter said.
Craig, the top lawyer at the White House and a close aide to President Barack Obama, has helped lead the administration's efforts on several national-security policies that initially enjoyed popular support but have since become liabilities for Obama.
These include the planned closure of the prison for terrorism suspects at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and the release of Bush administration-era national-security documents.

The little kids are running home. LOL
And thus opening up the way for the next Commie to come down the pike...
...same as it ever was.
Is this the position that Anita Dunn’s husband is going to fill?
Another one bites the dust!
Craig has represented numerous high-profile clients. In 1981, he was a member of the team that represented John Hinckley, Jr., who tried to assassinate Ronald Reagan. helping put together an insanity defense that led to Hinckley’s acquittal.
Craig represented Senator Ted Kennedy during the 1991 rape trial of William Kennedy Smith. (The Senator himself faced no charges in this trial.)
He represented the Cuban father of Elián González during the 2000 child custody dispute which ended when U.S. Marshals enforced court orders that the child be moved from the Florida home of relatives, where they had influenced the child to make a number of videos lashing out at his father. The courts ultimately supported the father’s contention that the child should be returned to his custody, a decision father’s rights groups around the world greeted with overwhelming approval.
Craig represented United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan during the Volker Commission’s investigations in 2004 into the scandals involving the oil-for-food programme.
Recently, he represented Pedro Miguel González Pinzón, a Panamanian legislator wanted in the US for the murder in 1992 of a US soldier, and the attempted murder of another. The Dallas Morning News called on Senator Obama to ask Craig to choose between the campaign and involvement in the case. Craig had earlier represented the Panamá government during the trial in 1990 of the former president, General Manuel Noriega and had sought the return to Panamá’s treasury of funds stolen by Noriega.
Craig’s representation of Latin American politicians caused an uproar again in June 2008, when the U.S. Department of Justice granted asylum to two of his clients, former Bolivian President Gonzalo Sánchez de Lozada and former Minister of Defense Carlos Sánchez Berzaín. The two Bolivians were under indictment in Bolivia for their role in the government’s killing of 67 protesters in El Alto in 2003. While ultimately endorsing Craig, the Council on Hemispheric Affairs said that his representation of the two Bolivian clients, “has raised legitimate doubts regarding his moral commitment to Latin America.”
Oh the humanity!
He seems to have a lot of experience representing highly placed scum in the public trust.
I’m sure a guy like that could be very useful around 1600 these days.
He is a class A dirtbag, isn’t he?
Replacing Craig as the White House's Chief Legal Counsel is reported to be Robert Bauer, HUSBAND to outgoing White House Communication Director Anita Dunn. Robert Bauer, Chair of the Political Law Group of Perkins Coie, handled most of the lawsuits for Obama and the DNC during the 2008 campaign.
Robert Bauer was the general counsel of the presidential campaign of Barack Obama. He went on to become the general counsel of the Democratic National Committee. He is also the top lawyer of Organizing for America. Along with this, he also represents the President on his personal matters. He also holds a full time job as the chairman of the political law group of Perkins Coie. Perkins and Coie is the firm that defends Obama against the controversies regarding the legitimacy of his citizenship status based on being naturally born in the country.
Yes .. Glenn got the inside word ... weeks ago .. LOL.
At the 7:35 mark
He needs another 500,000 “saved” jobs. Dufus isn’t going to last long while people in good standing 2 or 3yrs ago voted for his ass.
Obama’s minions are starting to fall like fleas! LOL!
In other words, he was Fidel Castro's lawyer.
He’s getting rid of all the Clintonistas.
Something is afoot!
He’ll have no trouble blending right into his new surroundings.
He sounds like he's trying to become Hasan's defense lawyer. Then he can handle all the book and movie deals.
What a resume! No wonder his Lowness appointed him.
Robert “Bob” Bauer, a prominent Washington attorney who worked with the Obama campaign, is expected to be named his successor, Democratic sources told Fox News late Thursday.
Bauer is married to Anita Dunn, interim Communications Director. Dunn relinquished her post this week and will leave the White House at month’s end.
I don’t know. It seems that Dunn resigned only because they didn’t want to have husband and wife under the same office, not because she couldn’t stand fire.
I guess kidnapping little Cuban boys and justifying their return to communism just doesn’t have the prestige it once did when they can now make whole nations communist.
Rats exciting the good ship Lolliflop?
Unbelievable! What an administration. We might as well elect Chavez president. His administration probably wouldn’t be much more radical.
Poor Greg. I guess that D.C. is just not Havana...yet.
As was said about this shyster many years ago, never trust a man with two first names.
WOW - On the wrong side of every case.
WIMP! QUITTER! ALL obama people have a "rocky tenure," you fool. It's part of the job description. Didn't you read the contract?
New obama bus on order.
What a scum. Good riddance. Obama sure knows how to pick ‘em.
This is not a win, I believe he’ll be replaced by Anita Dunn’s husband.
You know, there is a pattern there.
Back in the early Fifties, Joe McCarthy raked George Marshall over the coals as being in the pocket of communists. He had the guts and the conviction to go on the floor of the Senate and spell out exactly what he meant, no pulling of punches.
He discussed how at every single turn, every decision made was in the best interests of the Soviets or the Chicoms ranging from Yalta, Teheran, Potsdam and the postwar actions. He said that if the mistakes were made due to stupidity or incompetence, then the odds would be that at least some of the time, the correct action would take place.
I see the same thing here. If this person didn’t have a specific bent for perverts, totalitarians and scumbags, then he might have a decent client to his name.
“He sounds like he’s trying to become Hasan’s defense lawyer.”
To me it’s amazing it took until the 24th comment of the thread. That’s precisely what popped into my head the moment I read the headline.
Hasan is precisely the type of dirtbag murdering societal reject this Craig life-form covers.
Interesting observation... Mentally flagging it and waiting for more shoes to drop. If more Clintonistas fall, some sort of palace purge is going on IMHO, hmmmm is the megalomaniac getting a bit paranoid?
He needed to resign so he can defend KSM & Co.
“WOW - On the wrong side of every case.”
In the tradition of Bill Kuntsler.
This must be the “revolving door” that the democRats are always complaining about.
Who hired Craig - the first OR second time?
