WASHINGTON — Self-proclaimed Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other Guantanamo Bay detainees will be sent to New York to face trial in a civilian federal court, an Obama administration official said Friday.

The official said Attorney General Eric Holder plans to announce the decision later in the morning.

The official is not authorized to discuss the decision before the announcement, so spoke on condition of anonymity.

The reason that the mosques and skyscraper were seized was a judicial decision that came out on Tuesday in a long-running money-laundering case against the individual who was head of the “foundation” that owned these things. Charges were filed in December, 2008 and the judge decided against the defendant this week, which automatically meant that these buildings were up for seizure.

I think the timing was coincidental. Because the case was already underway when Hussein took over, Holder couldn’t stop it and can’t intervene publicly to stop the seizure (but I bet you that he’ll manage to stop it somehow).

No, I think they’ve been quietly “mulling,” as the press likes to call Hussein’s plotting, how to try their precious terrorists in the way that would be most insulting to the American people, and they came up with the idea of giving the poor babies an ordinary criminal court trial in the very city that was so cruel to these innocent little Muslim boys, who were just looking for their virgins...

If I was the judge, I would toss these cases out on these two pretenses:

1. Defendants were denied right to speedy trial.
2. Crimes were not committed within US.

For individuals who have never set foot inside the US, bringing them here for trial in domestic civilian court is a gargantuan mistake. They should be tried by military tribunal outside the US.
