Bush Warns of Threats to Freedom, Economic Growth
Washington Times ^ | 11-13-09 | Joseph Curl

Former President George W. Bush, outlining plans for a new public policy institute, on Thursday said America must fight the temptation to allow the federal government to take control of the private sector, declaring that too much government intervention will squelch economic recovery and expansion.

(snip)

In his speech, which set out his goals for a new policy institute focused on economic growth, education, human freedom and global health, Mr. Bush said he entered politics because "because I saw society drifting away from the values at the heart of the American Dream."

I will agree with you - Bush made mistakes in his last term, especially the last year of it. But the cause of all of the economic mess stands firmly upon the shoulders of the Democratically controlled congress, who, by the way is responsible for the economic decline in the first place (no one has mentioned that it was the last two years of Bush’s presidency when the economy went into a free-fall - and, what happened during those last two years?)

It’s really unsettling to see people on FR behaving just like carbon copies of the democrats when they start eating their own.

...who nationalized Chrysler and GM.

No, that would be the "blowhard" illegitimate islamofascist communist currently soiling the People's House.

READ and LEARN!

President Bush authorized $13.4 billion in federal loans, not nationalization.

The loans are for three years, but the money will have to be repaid in full within 30 days if the firms do not show themselves to be viable by March 31.

Illegals have broke California And USA and if we was told truth if illegals was sent home our country would not be in as bad shape. If you look at welfare, schools, health care and jobless it all goes back to illegals. Illegals have broke our country and US Congress and President Bush, President Obama and those before them all help illegals take over USA! And we a US Citizens need make sure it stopped and quickly or we will not have a USA as we know it. Our kids grand kids will not have a free country so stand up one all in USA!

“replaced by someone just as bad.”

just as bad??? That’s what BHO and the Dems hope you think...

politics as usual... it’s just our turn.

No, what is happening is an altogether different ideology on an altogether different scale never seen before in America.

It is the purposeful destruction of America and its Constitution.

you had TWO TERMS years WITH TWO CONGRESSIONAL MAJORITIES where you could have put the Marxist liberals out of business.

2005 and 2006 were the only years there was a majority in both houses of CONgress...that is if you consider 55 SINators a republican majority when 5 of them are known members of the
Republican Main Street Partnership.
[Arlene Sphincter and Norm Coleman were the other two at the time.]

There were also more than 42 House members on the roster, which outweighed the so-called 30 member majority there.

You did NOTHING. YOU DID NOT FIGHT.

He needed CONgre$$ to do SOMETHING. He needed CONgre$$ to help with the FIGHT! He was no Obama...circumventing CONgre$$.

President Bush was “head and shoulders” above almost all of the Democrats and most of the Republicans yet many on this board stand in line to vilify him.

He has been gone less than a year, has things improved (seems to have gotten much worse), is there a Republican standing taller than he did... I don’t see one.
Many The Gov. Palin will be the one to “stand above” other Republicans but I don’t see it yet, maybe in two years when the politicking really starts.

Another Bush "Read My Lips" legacy moment. A nice, compassionate christian Texas businessman more suited for running the local chapter of The Chamber of Commerce while promoting illegal day laborers and Saudis with large bank accounts.

Like George W. Bush didn’t know in December what Obama would do in February. . . . sure.

The sooner conservatives disassociate themselves from GWB , the better for everyone involved.

The worst thing about Bush was the appointments he made . . I am thinking of Hank Paulson and SEC Chairman Chris Cox.

Those two spent way too much time on the golf course while the economy imploded, which resulted in Obama being elected, unfortunately.

I understand your point, but he barely lifted a finger his last two years in office...except for the surge. Right or wrong, the President will always get the lions share of blame when it comes to the economy.

McCain ran an awful campaign, and that's why we got Obama.

Wow; thanks for linking that thread. How long are they going to keep fighting the last war? We need all the reinforcements we can muster for THIS present war.

I will just repeat on the difference between Bush & BHO-—between the Bush adm and the BHO adm:

What is happening [now] is an altogether different ideology on an altogether different scale never seen before in America.

It is the purposeful destruction of America and its Constitution.
