Unwritten story: New VA & NJ governors are strong Catholics
American Papist ^ | 11/13/09 | Thomas Peters

...two Catholic candidates won elections this year to state-wide office without compromising their pro-life, pro-family principles.

The world didn't end, and once they are in office, they won't conduct witch hunts against those who disagree with them on these issues - but they will use their office to promote these central values, which transcend any one religion or political party. Catholics aren't pro-life and pro-family, after all, only because the Church tells them to be so, but rather, they are encouraged to hold true to these commonsense principles because of the witness and encouragement of their Catholic faith.

You read a lot, and heard a lot about how dangerous were Christie and McDonnell's "Catholic" beliefs during the election, but you won't hear much about these "dangers" now, because in the meantime, the people of Virginia and New Jersey chose them for elected office.

I think this reality scares some pro-abortion, anti-marriage individuals. But it should encourage us.

This is very newsworthy... in 2000, 16 of the 50 states had Catholic governors and in 2005, that number rose to 22 of the 50 states. Republicans need to corner the Catholic vote and persuade Catholics that the Democrats are NOT on their side.

If Christie was a “strong Catholic” he would not have chosen a pro-abortion running mate.

You are right. Let us see how strong a Catholic they are by their Pro-Life actions, both at the beginning of life and at the end of life!

Feh ....

Does it bother you to learn that your personal experiences aren't Universal Truth?

My point is that "Catholic == Liberal", as your post number 6 implies, is a falsehood.

Now ... given that Virginia has just elected (by an historic landslide) a pro-life, conservative, Catholic Republican as Governor, and a pro-life, conservative, Catholic Republican as Attorney General ...

What's your point, again? Do you even have one?

I replied to this. “Republicans need to corner the Catholic vote and persuade Catholics that the Democrats are NOT on their side.”
I say again, good luck with that. I am amazed at how liberal Catholics can be,it has been my experience that the ones I know tend to vote for dims. This goes back to the election of Jimmy Carter. I'm saying that the Catholics I have known for my entire life tend to be liberal. Sorry if that doesn't conform with your opinion.

Sorry if that doesn't conform with your opinion.

Opinion?

This is not a matter of opinion. It's a matter of observation. Observation and opinion are not the same things. The results of the recent Virginia elections are facts. Deal with them.

My observations of the voting habits of Catholics, going back to the late 1960s, are apparently different from your observations of the voting habits of Catholics going back to the mid 1970s. Both sets of observations are Facts; they have nothing to do with opinion.

You expect others to learn from facts which you have observed? You would do well to learn from the facts which they have observed. (Finally, an opinion.) Messrs. McDonnell and Cuccinelli appear to have had no trouble cornering just about every voting bloc in this fine Commonwealth. They did so (in my opinion) by being honest and consistent in espousing conservative principles. Other candidates would do well (here's another opinion) to emulate them. And FReepers (one last opinion, here) would do well to move their analysis beyond the snarky remark.

I’m Catholic, but Barry O isn’t the worst president ever.

FDR was worse...

FDR had the saboteurs tried and fried in 28 days. This asshole is bestowing full constitutional rights on terrorists and trying them as common criminals so that Bush and the CIA can be tried concurrently in the city they blew up.

This clown is even worse than LBJ, the absolute worst POTUS ever until he met his match in Obama.

FDR did tremendous damage to America, how many of his social programs are we still dealing with now?

I’m not an apologist for Barry O, but I still think he has a way to go to make up 13 years of mischief.
