Nidal Malik Hasan is a jihadist. That so many refuse to even consider this in the face of the overwhelming evidence might help explain why those whose job it was to keep us safe refused to see it back when it really mattered.

On May 31, 2001, Nidal Malik Hasan attended the funeral service for his mother, Hanan Ismail ("Nora" to those who knew her) at the Dar al Hijrah Islamic Center in Falls Church, Virginia. According to an obituary in the Roanoke Times, Nora was well-known "for her leadership in running the Capitol Restaurant," where she would "keep sometimes rowdy customers out of trouble and always had a warm meal for someone who otherwise would not have anything to eat that evening." Nora was just 49 years old when she died, and her husband passed away three years earlier. They had moved their family to Roanoke in the mid-1980s to pursue business interests and left behind three sons and a large extended family.

The Dar al Hijrah mosque describes itself as "one of the largest and most diverse Islamic Centers in the nation." It hosts hundreds of Muslims for prayers every Friday. At the time of Nora's funeral, a charismatic imam named Anwar al Awlaki was leading the weekly proceedings. Born in America and fluent in English, he was especially effective in dealing with the mosque's English-speaking membership. "Our community needed an imam who could speak English," said Dar al Hijrah's current imam, Johari Abdul-Malik, in a recent interview with PBS. "Not like many masjid, who have an imam who is from the old guard--he speaks broken English, if he speaks English at all--but someone who could convey that message with the full force of faith. [Awlaki] was that person. And he delivered that message dutifully."

The more Muslims there are in the U.S., the more potential followers of extremists such as Awlaki. Besides ending the immigration of Muslims into the U.S., we need to think about how to reconcile the 1st Amendment with the operation of U.S. mosques that preach jihad.

Radical Islam is an insane murder cult; moderate Islam is its Trojan Horse in the West.

The First Amendment does not protect preaching jihad.

I first heard about the Fort Hood massacre on the regular NBC TV network. After the perpetrators name was mentioned, the situation absolutely screamed for possibility of terrorism or religious disaffection. But, the rest of the half-hour show went by without without the “M” word or the “T” word being mentioned. It was as if some wino had walked in front of the camera and started urinating on the anchorman’s desk, but the people looking on were too polite to mention it.

Having had enough of this “hard news”, I turned to Fox, and boing! Hannity had Hasan’s cousin of the phone. A few minutes later Hannity was on a phone to a retired army colonel who knew him. In a matter of minutes I learned that Hasan was born a Muslim along with specific anecdotes about bizarre behavior indicating radicalization and emotional distress.

Far worse than NBC was Army chief of staff General George Casey, with the nauseating quote: “As horrific as this tragedy was, if our diversity becomes a casualty, I think that’s worse.” This guy is in charge of protecting us? He makes Obama look like George Patton.
