The announcement came as the Taliban struck again in the capital. A suicide car bomber blasted a US convoy near an American military base in Kabul, injuring nine American soldiers and 10 contract security guards.

Would Nato forces actually fight? Some do and some don’t.

"Would Nato forces actually fight?"

Fight is not the right word.

The issue revolves around COIN and the rules of engagement places limits on fighting.

Also, one very prominent Obama advisor, earlier this year, criticized the Brits in Helmand, saying that they didn't know how to do counterinsurgency.

But when the US Marines relieved the Brits in Helmand, their attempts at COIN were not as successful as expected.

Which has led to the uncertainties on exactly how many troops and what the mission is.
