KABUL - Europe may send 5,000 more soldiers to Afghanistan, Britains prime minister said yesterday - affirming support for the NATO mission as the Obama administration nears a decision on increasing American troop levels.
The announcement came as the Taliban struck again in the capital. A suicide car bomber blasted a US convoy near an American military base in Kabul, injuring nine American soldiers and 10 contract security guards.

The sickening news media during the elections along with many rat followers claimed Palin had no experience and no credentials to be President. This abomination we have now had no experience then and he proves himself daily !
Palin, mayor, governor
Obama, community organizer, senator for three months.

"Would Nato forces actually fight?"
Fight is not the right word.
The issue revolves around COIN and the rules of engagement places limits on fighting.
Also, one very prominent Obama advisor, earlier this year, criticized the Brits in Helmand, saying that they didn't know how to do counterinsurgency.
But when the US Marines relieved the Brits in Helmand, their attempts at COIN were not as successful as expected.
Which has led to the uncertainties on exactly how many troops and what the mission is.
