World Leaders Back Delay to Final Climate Deal
The New York Times ^ | November 15, 2009

Posted on 11/15/2009 7:25:49 AM PST by Delacon

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama and other world leaders on Sunday supported delaying a legally binding climate pact until 2010 or even later, under a compromise deal for next month's Copenhagen summit.

"Given the time factor and the situation of individual countries we must, in the coming weeks, focus on what is possible and not let ourselves be distracted by what is not possible," Danish Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen told the leaders.

"The Copenhagen Agreement should finally mandate continued legal negotiations and set a deadline for their conclusion," said the Copenhagen talks host, who flew into Singapore to lay out his proposal over breakfast at an Asia-Pacific summit.

Rasmussen's two-step plan would pave the way for a political accord at the December 7-18 talks, to be followed by haggling over legally binding commitments on targets, finance and technology transfer on a slower track, though still with a deadline.

It would give breathing space for the U.S. Senate to pass carbon-capping legislation, allowing the Obama administration to bring a 2020 target and financing pledges to the table at a major U.N. climate meeting in Bonn in mid-2010.

"There was an assessment by the leaders that it was unrealistic to expect a full, internationally legally binding agreement to be negotiated between now and when Copenhagen starts in 22 days," senior U.S. negotiator Michael Froman told reporters after the meeting, which was attended by leaders of the United States, China, Japan, Russia, Mexico, Australia and Indonesia.

"We believe it is better to have something good than to have nothing at all," Chilean Foreign Minister Mariano Fernandez said.

I don’t understand? I thought this had to be done NOW because we are all going to die in 43.7 days due to it getting so hot that we all will be willing to drink Obama’s kool aid.

Yeah I saw this last night. No NWO until 2010.

This IS NOT GOOD for Obama; the longer it takes for him to sign us up for global currency/government the longer he has to destroy our economy and be impeached.

These drastic restrictions on economic growth will never pass as long as people are allowed a vote or influence on the issue. Feel-good policies that don’t really have any effect, but nothing substantial. Here, in Europe or anywhere else.

Perhaps that’s why so many warmists have recently been expressing their longing for a dictatorship of the environuts. It’s the only way they’ll get their policies through.

LOL! Good luck getting this bill of goods through the Senate in the middle of an election year and a crappy economy to boot. Democracy does have its moments.

They’ve painted themselves in to a corner. I’ve heard/read more than one “if it’s not done right now then it’ll be too late to do anything” prediction. And then the economy tanked, and people balked at the whole scam. So now they have to back-pedal and say there’s plenty of time.

But always remember, this has nothing to do with the climate, and everything to do with making sure those powerful interests already positioned in the carbon credit markets (like Goldman Sachs and Al Gore) get paid off for their investment.

There are a LOT of people in US in favor of government health care. Not nearly as many in favor of crippling our economy, at least not once they figure out hot it affects their own income.

Oh, I absolutely know this never had anything to do with the climate. I realize it’s a scam along with many of the other initiatives these idiots wants to force upon us. Hopefully 2010 will be the beginning where we take America back from these radical socialists who now govern us.

Gee, do you suppose the fact that the earth seems to have decided to cool off has anything to do with this?

Giving it a little more thought, no. It makes no difference what the physical or thermodynmic facts are. We MUST have this warmist dictatorship to make certain the United States is brought to its economic knees.

Except that China, India and Russia have pretty much said "piss on you" to any treaties.

Global warming is a hoax. It is cooling and has been for 10 years. This is only an excuse to run your life and dumb down our economy to the level of the third world because its “FAIR”. Accept no policy the premise of which is a total hoax.

While I celebrate the evident breakdown in this corrupt and destructive process, this action may be a smoke screen for the USA alone signing one nasty agreement. There are far-reaching consequences to a signature.

Vigilance and resistance are still required, more than ever.

At the time of the healthcare reform bill’s passage in the house Rassmussen had 54% of the people opposed to it yet it still passed. My point is the the dems in congress don’t give a damn what the people think on global warming, healthcare or anything else that is contrary to their lefty worldview.

The Leftys don’t actually believe in all that environmental idiocy. They just like that it ends up in massive, non-answerable-to-the-unwashed-masses, internatoonal governmental control.

I suspect they will wait until Earth is actually warming again.

The ten year cooling curve is so visible in the data that it wrecks their stance.

Maybe now that we have some solar activity the curve will tip up.

I was in ShopRite just yesterday and their aisle TVs showed “Hopenhagen.org” ads which spouted the usual lies about how the number of hurricanes have “doubled” (actually were fewer in the past 4 years than any 4 year period in 120 years). Do they really think that propaganda and obvious, provable lies still works?

Yes. The politicians accept that the academics (scientists) know what they're doing. When you have a majority of scientists backing something it is difficult for a politician to state that they know better than scientists. Plus the politicians see whats in it for them - more power and tax revenue.

The good news is Obama, the teleprompter n chief, the indecisive boy/man who does not have the guts to vote anything but "present" is no Hitler. Off script, without his almighty/ever present teleprompter Obamessiah can't string two sentences together.
