A DEADLY plague could sweep across Europe, doctors fear, after an outbreak of a virus in Ukraine plunged the country and its neighbours into a state of panic.
A cocktail of three flu viruses are reported to have mutated into a single pneumonic plague, which it is believed may be far more dangerous than swine flu. The death toll has reached 189 and more than 1 million people have been infected, most of them in the nine regions of Western Ukraine.
President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko has called in the World Health Organisation and a team of nine specialists are carrying out tests in Kiev and Lviv to identify the virus. Samples have been sent to London for analysis.
President Yushchenko said: “People are dying. The epidemic is killing doctors. This is absolutely inconceivable in the 21st Century.”
In a TV interview, the President added: “Unlike similar epidemics in other countries, three causes of serious viral infections came together simultaneously in Ukraine – two seasonal flus and the Californian flu
“Virologists conclude that this combination of infections may produce an even more aggressive new virus as a result of mutation.”
Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has been touring hospitals where victims are being treated and presidential elections in January could be cancelled .
Four men and one woman have died from the flu in Lviv, said emergency hospital chief doctor Myron Borysevych. Two of the dead patients were in the 22-35 age group, with two others over 60. He diagnosed the disease as viral pneumonia.
“We have sent the analyses to Kiev. We don’t believe it’s H1N1 swine flu. Neither do we know what kind of pneumonia it is.”

If this is correct, isn't 189 out of 1,000,000 a pretty low death rate? Less than 0.02%?
Seasonal flu is 0.1% death rate, I think. That would be 1000 people out of 1,000,000.
They proably won’t want to instill *panic* bad enough people are freaking out over the 2012 thingy, imagine if they say thousands are dying people will go bonkers on the planet.

189 dead are surely tragic for their families but hardly anything to panic about.

Putin in new Ukraine gas warning......
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has said Ukraine might be having problems paying for gas, raising new concerns over European supplies.
Mr Putin said the European Union had not yet given Ukraine the money it had promised to help provide stable supplies of Russian gas to Europe.
He also blamed Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko for blocking payment.
In January, many countries were left short of gas because of a payment dispute between Moscow and Kiev.
‘Blocking funds’
“It appears we are again having problems with payments for our energy supplies, which is extremely regrettable. The EU has still not provided Ukraine with the money it has promised for that purpose,” Mr Putin said.
“European leaders are referring us to the European Commission, while the European Commission leadership are evading discussing the issue with us.”
But Mr Putin said that despite the lack of funding from the EU, Ukraine still had plenty of cash to pay its gas bills.
Referring to the country’s large gold and foreign currency reserves, he said: “According to the Ukrainian Prime Minister [Yulia Tymoshenko], Yushchenko is obstructing normal co-operation between the central bank and the Ukrainian government and is blocking the transfer of relevant funds.”
In August, the EU and international lending institutions agreed a $1.7bn (£1bn at the time) loan deal to help secure European gas supplies.
This was specifically designed to ensure that the disruptions to supplies that occurred earlier in the year were not repeated.
Mr Putin’s comments have raised concerns that disruptions may happen again.
Russia provides about a quarter of the gas consumed in the EU and 80% of that is piped through Ukraine.
They do seem very excited about this one. Almost optimistic.

Yes, 0.0189%. With 200 million people contracting this flu, we could expect about 37,800 deaths.
Of course that’s if this morality rate were entirely accurate and remained constant.
If they say at least one million contracted the disease, the number could be higher or even lower. 189 deaths is quite low.

I did some quick number crunching and it appears that the mortality rate is even less than seasonal flu, which is in the range of one death per 2,000 cases.

If this were the run of the mill seasonal flu, there would something like 500 fatalities out of a million cases.

The above numbers represent the latest update for the Ukraine Ministry of Health. Once again the number of dead increased by 17, but weekend numbers tend to be lower than weekday reports. The 199 dead are almost double the 155 reported week ago. The increased number of dead includes locations in central and eastern Ukraine. Last Sunday 13 of the 27 reporting regions had not exceeded the epidemic threshold, but today only 5 regions remained below the threshold (see map).
There has been more recent media coverage which have suggested that the high number of fatal cases was linked to late treatment or a lack of Tamiflu. However, at least 6 of the fatalities were healthcare workers and most of the reported deaths were after the warning was issued and schools were closed down, suggesting that many of not most cases were not due to late treatment. The initial WHO report indicated the time between disease onset and hospitalization was 5-7 days, but the more recent report from Ukraine cited a 3-7 day lag, which again suggested that many die in spite of awareness, modest time differentials between symptoms and hospitalization and appropriate treatment.
Moreover, 90 of the initial cases were describe as have a hemorrhagic component, which again raises concerns about small genetic changes, especially in the receptor binding domain. Answers to questions about such changes have been evasive, and the sequences have not been released by Mill Hill.
The sequence silence remains deafening, and erodes public confidence in agencies controlling these samples and sequences.

Actually, they do. If a person is infected with multiple strains of influenza, the different strains can swap genetic material and a strain with genetic material from 2 or more variants of influenza can form. Except that parainfluenza is a bacterial infection, not a viral infection, and not uncommonly follows influenza, hence its name. This certainly would not be something new or novel.

Not to worry. This is merely the government’s idea of population control. It’s necessary, you see.... since the government doesn’t have enough money to take care of everyone (despite their lies about needing to care for everyone). So they’ll just cull the herd a bit and their problem will be solved (for a while). Regularly scheduled culling is necessary, of course.

There is a lot we know and a lot that we can only speculate on about what is unfolding in Central Europe. We know that in mid-October, less than a month ago, there was a growing number of cases of what many thought was Swine Flu (A/H1N1) in the western part of the Ukraine. We know that many hundreds if not thousands of people in western Ukraine witnessed low flying light airplanes aerosol spraying something over Ukrainian cities during the days of October 29, 2009 and October 31, 2009. We know that beginning the night of October 29th, massive numbers of people begin to get very sick. We know that the Ukraine government issued a statement denying that it was doing any aerial spraying to combat the growing disease or authorizing any spraying over Ukrainian cities. We know that by October 30th, the Ukrainian authorities closed all schools for three weeks and banded public gatherings.
We do NOT know what disease the people were/are coming down with. We do know that doctors are describing the disease as Pneumonic Plague, or as some type of hemorrhagic fever, or as hemorrhagic influenza, or as hemorrhagic pneumonia. We know that the illness, whatever it is, does not appear to be A/H1N1. We do not know if the disease is a recombination of A/H1N1 with other viruses or some totally different virus or if it is in fact a virus. We know that the World Health Organization (WHO) has had several days to sequence the genes of the disease but has failed to release this data.

We know that Baxter International Pharmaceuticals sent 72 kilos of human influenza H3N2 vaccine materials to 16 labs in European nations which contained live H5N1 Bird Flu viruses. We know that this was only discovered when a Czech lab tested the material on several ferrets (ferrets have a similar respiratory system to humans) and all of the ferrets died in short order. We know that Baxter claimed that this was human error. We also know that such a ‘human error’ is basically impossible with the containment protocols in place at Baxter and any other modern biolabs using Biosafety Level 3 (BLS-3) lab technology.
We know that in mid-August a Joseph Moshe, who is a Mossad biological warfare expert, called in to Dr. A. True Ott’s national radio talk show and reported that Baxter was getting ready to release a deadly plague from its Ukrainian lab and that he was shortly meeting with US Attorneys in Los Angles to give evidence about this. We know that shortly thereafter Moshe was apprehended by Federal agents and LA police and taken to the Israeli Consulate. We know that he was quickly flown to Israel and that no further word has come from him.
