Obama: Professed 9/11 mastermind will be convicted

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama predicted that professed Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed will be convicted and executed as Attorney General Eric Holder proclaimed: "Failure is not an option."

Even if a terror trial suspect were acquitted, Holder said, he would not be released in the United States.

In one of a series of TV interviews during his trip to Asia, Obama said those offended by the legal privileges given to Mohammed by virtue of getting a civilian trial rather than a military tribunal won't find it "offensive at all when he's convicted and when the death penalty is applied to him."

Isn’t he “jumping to conclusions”?

Gee, I'm sure his defense attorneys won't use these quotes in court to try to prove that their client can't get a fair trial.

Someone explain to me how this comment doesn’t taint the jury pool.

So much for the presumption of innocence. I wonder if regular folks will eventually lose that as well?

I thought the “fairness” of a trial was at issue if government leaders predicted the outcome. Is Obama trying to ensure that KSM gets released on a technicality?

Sounds like he's deliberately polluting the jury pool.

He's a fricking lawyer, for God's sake.

He ought to know better.

He must be doing it on purpose.

He must want to assure a mistrial.

Good questions.

It is a very intemperate comment coming from a high placed elected official.

He'd better pray KSM is convicted because if he gets off Zero is toast.

You can bet your bottom dollar every silk stocking liberal law firm in New York will be lining up to give this guy top shelf representation. Every loophole will be fly specked.

If its not just a show trial, then he most likely must be found not guilty. After all, he was not read his Miranda rights. All testimony by him in his own words is not admissable.

Obama might as well be saying about the 9/11 terrorists: “Let my people go!”

So the President can say he'll be convicted and it's a fair trial meeting the Left's view of the law?

This guy should be shot as a war criminal not tried as a citizen who is innocent until proven guilty.

"Someone explain to me how this comment doesn’t taint the jury pool."

Bingo. Some defense attorney just took note and recorded this. You have the most powerful man in the world declare guilt would make for a good argument. Likewise, Mr. Constitutional scholar, the president, might consider the presumption of innocence. The focus groups and internal polls must be terrible for him to panic and say something so stupid.

Hell, given that this is the POTUS speaking, and his AG is prosecuting, it triggers a mistrial right there. A defense attorney would be struggling under all the possibilities for using this idiotic statement against the government - once he stopped laughing.
