Terrorists may have been upset over the treatment of their brothers-in-arms at Gitmo, but striking back at the naval base was a logistical impossibility. Not so with a city of endless subway tunnels, elevator shafts and an entire island that can be brought to a halt given the right combination of carnage and chaos.
The Obama administration grossly underestimated the response of the American people when it announced its intentions last week to try battlefield combatants in criminal courts. We were also not impressed that President Obama ducked responsibility by simply calling it a "prosecutorial" decision. We see the harm the trials could generate by allowing them to proceed.
Yet if all these things are true of Americans at large, the residents of NYC realize them in greater magnification.
On my nationally syndicated radio show this week we asked New Yorkers how they felt about enemy combatants, formerly taken straight from the battlefield, but now being given rights reserved for citizens of the United States. In a non-scientific survey the reaction was fierce 17 to 1 against bringing the terrorists to New York.
Why should 9/11 families, and the rest of us, pay (through our tax dollars) for the court-appointed council of the terrorists?

The jurors will be scared...could very well end up dead.
The trial will be moved out of NYC, just as the OKC bombing trial was moved out of OKC.
“The trial will be moved out of NYC, just as the OKC bombing trial was moved out of OKC.”
Nope...Holder won’t allow it...this is his end...he’ll go down in flames over this one...
I nominate D.C.
Gilligan pulled a good one this time! Instead of a military trial at GITMO where it was logical to prosecute them, Obango
has given the terrorist a New York stage trial to vent and stoke all the hatred radical Muslims have for America.
If just one American civilian is killed during this farce he and his hacks should end up on trial for murder!....
No no no,, im sure it’s a wise new policy of Eric Holder to try terrorists at the scene of the crime. Now, i wonder if we will see Major Hassan put on trial at Fort Hood, 1000 yards away from the place he shot up, with a jury of enlisted soldiers?
Something I noticed about Obama, he defers tough decision. He can never make up his mind on anything.
The only jurors that would be willing to do the job will be looking to see their face on TV.
Calhoun.. I mean Holder is in charge. Everybody is safe.
President Obama ducked responsibility by simply calling it a "prosecutorial" decision.
All he has to say is, "Holder made a mistake and I'm overruling him.
Should there be, and I pray there won't, a terrorist attack in NYC and people die, their blood will be on Obama's hands, and he won't be able to wash it off.
In an earlier posting I speculated KSM is being sent to NYC for two purposes:
1. To allow Obama to bash Bush one more time for waterboarding KSM.
2. To deflect attention from Obama’s failures—cap and trade, healthcare, and stimulus.
Now I would add a third reason:
3. To funnel Federal dollars to NYC. Already Schumer is requesting $75 million to pay for added security. How many more Federal dollars are going to be funneled underground to NYC has not been reported yet. This scam is a full employment act for NYC. Who needs tourists when perhaps billions of Federal dollars are sent to NYC to pay for the KSM kangaroo court.
I’d love to take our youngest son to NYC, but I certainly wouldn’t do it while that trial is going on!
The judge decides that issue, not Holder.
The trial is expected to cost $100 million, all for terrorists who have already pled guilty.
Take a deep breath indeed if you live in NY, it could be your last because of this terrorist magnet carnival trial.
This trial is no longer about convicting KSM. That isn't going to happen.
This is a war crimes trial of Bush and Cheney, and a way to funnel sensitive information to the terrorists, so that they can kill us more effectively.
