It's important to say that Our Lady of Wasilla must exhibit the ability to neutralize, and then to reverse, her high negatives.

Yes, it's unfair that she has the high negatives to begin with, and it's worse that they result from an unprecedented and coordinated campaign of vilification.

But the worst thing of all is that the "destroy Sarah" campaign IS WORKING, and that fact means that such tactics will be deployed against any conservative with a chance of winning.

THEREFORE, the next conservative President will be one who can turn aside or reverse the kind of attacks that have been so effective against Palin - and we don't know, yet, that she is capable of such a reversal.

If she is, she's the next President, but if she isn't, she's going nowhere.

Yeah, there are a lot of people, who used to like Romney. He has a great story for a Republican candidate, saved the Salt Lake City Olympics, successful business turnaround artist in saving a creating loads of real jobs in the real economy, experience as Governor and a great family.

Then he campaigned. Then millions of Republicans were desperate for a new candidate. Can you say Fred Thompson? Bottom line, no Romney. Not then, not now, not tomorrow. Romney would be great to head up a new Grace Commission.

Romney is psychotic Mexican pretending he is a
Massachusetts Brahmin.

No wonder he must backstab women and children.
Romney’s male family DNA made it off of the Titanic first.

We must not have Romney surrogates attack Palin, but it is OK to have a web site continually posting Palin surrogates attacking Romney. That’s different.

Oh Billy Billy Billy...

It IS different...

This is a Conservative site.

Palin has already won over conservatives.

Mitt...

Well...

Be a good start if he would be conservative and stay there for at least 5 minutes...

But given that won't happen...

Well even you can see where the problem lies...

I think...

I think pretty much every candidate on the center-right, GOP, third-party or independent, needed a Pygmalion, either on style, substance or both. Every one. Including McCain. Even more so, considering that most of them are at least considering going again in 2012. And I think the governor might actually be one of the less daunting projects.

He didn't bash Palin. In fact, he said nothing bad about Palin at all.

Here is his entire section of the article:

“Once you’re painted into the picture fairly or, mostly unfairly, changing that perception is the hardest thing to do,” Kaufman said.

As you can see, he said the picture painted of her was MOSTLY UNFAIR. He is pointing out a sad truth, which is that first impressions are hard to overcome. To ignore that truth because of your mitt-hatred is a serious mistake.

The "first impression" rule is why so many political campaigns start with negative ads about unknown opponents. Paint the picture before the opponent gets the chance, because first impressions are hard to overcome.

The remainder of the quote, including the "pygmalian project", was not Kaufman, it was Buchanon:

Nixon is an exception. In 1968, he positioned himself to lead the party to victory as rising opposition to the Vietnam War led President Lyndon Johnson to give up a bid for re- election.

Buchanan said Palin is unlikely to ride to the top of the ticket on the current administration’s woes and her grassroots support alone.

“She would have to be somebody’s Pygmalion project,” he said.

Simple truth: Palin will NOT win the nomination, OR the Presidency, if she does not overcome the mostly unfair first impressions of her. Her book is part of that work. Her most rabid supporters are the biggest threat to that work, because they tend to re-inforce the false impressions of Palin by posting cheesecake pictures of her in threads, and treating her like a china doll who has to be defended by trashing anybody who says the slightest negative thing about her.

Palin is much better than that, and her fanatic supporters need to let Palin be Palin.

DO you disagree with ROn’s quote that “Once you’re painted into the picture fairly or, mostly unfairly, changing that perception is the hardest thing to do,”?

What part do you disagree with? That her first impression was unfair, or that it is hard to change first impressions?

And which part do you think was an “attack” on Palin? Saying she was unfairly characterized, or that it will be hard work to change that impression?

Or did you not actually read the article, and just assumed that the original poster knew what he was talking about?
