CNN poll : Blame for economy shifting to Democrats

Ten months to the day after Barack Obama took office and three years since Democrats won control of both chambers of Congress, the American public has begun to get the impression that Democrats are responsible for the economic mess that continues to unfold. A new CNN poll shows that those blaming Republicans has dropped fifteen points in the last six months, while those blaming Democrats have risen 21 points in the same period (via Yid with Lid):

Nearly two years into the recession, opinion about which political party is responsible for the severe economic downturn is shifting, according to a new national poll.

A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Friday morning indicates that 38 percent of the public blames Republicans for the country’s current economic problems. That’s down 15 points from May, when 53 percent blamed the GOP. According to the poll 27 percent now blame the Democrats for the recession, up 6 points from May. Twenty-seven percent now say both parties are responsible for the economic mess.

So basically 2/5 people out there are mental patients?

Got it.

This is consistent with my conversations with ‘soccer moms’.

The majority of them were “giving” Obama a year before shifting the blame to the democrats. One year is coming up fast, and there are no signs that things will turn around before January 21.

A recession was going to happen, it is a cycle.

The problem really is that obama and the democrats talked this economy into the toilet for 2.5 years just to get power.

While they did this they blackmailed banks into giving dumb loans.........they broke it and they have no real idea how to fix it.

A true self fulfilling prophecy

About 30% of the population of this country are brain dead Democrat party drones. The Democrats are "their guys" who can do no wrong ever. These people will blame the GOP for everything no matter what.

This is about the same number who still voted for Carter in 1980.

The Socialist Democrats have controlled congress since the beginning of 2007. The economy from 2003-2006 was certainly one of the better ones in American history, even with the price of gas/oil as high as it was. It's always been 95% the Dems fault.

“You'd have to be either a partisan hack or a complete tard not to realize both parties have foisted this upon us.”

I disagree. The primary faction creating this mess is the MSM. You can argue whether the MSM is part of the Democrat party or if the Democrat party is just an action arm of the MSM, but the reason that Republicans have gone along with the Democrats on many stupid economic policies is the pressure exerted by the MSM.

Damn right he is, and I really am sick and tired of CNNCBSNYTNBCABCMSNBCNPR lashing out at everyone but the current administration for this ridiculous disaster.

It is the damn democrats' Scamulus program and all the additional wasteful spending that has tripled the deficit over the past year, and it is ALL on the watch of Raila Odinga's favorite cousin.

They want to attack President Bush, but they overlook all of the destruction brought about by Raila Odinga's best buddy.

03A3 is a troll who is incapable of understanding that the current administration has tripled the problem.

Instead of applying pressure and gause pads (cutting taxes and reducing wasteful spending) to the wound, the democrat party shot the patient several more times (massive socialist spending and a refusal to cut taxes).

I wouldn't waste too much of your time talking to someone as hopeless at 03A3.

Yup! Part of the 1/3 of Americans that I said are brain dead. The fog they are in will probably never be lifted. Freeloaders, socialists, and on and on. Didn't even know there was a Constitution. By the way, wonder if those two brilliant Americans ever got their $250 for King Obama's stash?

I put all the blame on the Republicrats. If the Republicans had used their power while controlling both houses, shut down the likes of Dodd, Kennedy, etc., then we wouldn’t be in this mess. The Republicans like to play nice. It is time they grew a pair and rammed the dissolution of the Dept. Of Education, Energy Dept., USDA, and about 90% of this government through just like they are going to do with amnesty and “health reform”.

That's roughly 3/10 Americans who are mentally unstable, and quite frankly, that's more than our society should have.

I am starting to understand why many honest/ethical people feel so alone these days.

Two years before Bush left Office, the Dems took over Congress and started mucking about with the economy.

Things have been going downhill ever since.

So yeah... They, and a few RINO's, are squarely to blame. Criminally so in a few instances due to the housing loan fraud.

It was only the last two (as well as the first two). The point here is that for four glorious years, the GOP held both houses of Congress and the White House, and in that four years, they were unable to accomplish anything because they are a bunch of wimps. They had the opportunity to fix Social Security, but squandered all their political capital on McCain's Amnesty bill.

We have been sold out.

I am glad that we agree. I would say that the MSM stopped being watchdogs (for more than one viewpoint) many decades ago. They have been pushing an agenda for a very long time. Virtually all major media is “progressive” in mindset.

Consider that every president for nearly the last 100 years has been a “progressive” of one type or another. The first “progressive” president was Teddy Roosevelt.

Baloney. Republican control means nothing if it doesn't contain a conservative majority. Plus leftwing Democrats have run the government for 50 of the last 62 years and their majorities were veto-proof.

Read a book about how government works and you won't look so ignorant. Reagan couldn't even abolish the Dept. of Education and he ran on that promise.

It would figure that, since the 'Rats are, by and large, economic retards and persist with their out-of-control Keynesian spending, borrowing, and printing paper money actions, the recession has continued to get deeper since they took total control of the executive and legislative brnches. The public is getting this, but kind of slowly, and that's what the polls are picking up. If there is no substantial economic turnaround in the next year (a very likely scenario), look for the 'Rats to be overwhelmed in next year's congressional elections.

In fact, the start of the recession should have been laid primarily on the doorstep of the 'Rats as well. Remember that the 'Rats in Congress forced subprime mortgages on the banking system and the 'Rats who ran Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were overly joyed to back up the derivatives of the subprime mortgages that the financial institutions were holding. Plus, although the MSM has been silent on this, the fact is that the masterminds of the first TARP bailouts at the end of the W administration were Bernanke at the Federal Reserve and Paulson at Treasury; both of them are Democrats appointed by Bush who stabbed the GOP (and most Americans) in the back and contributed mightily to the 2008 election results in the 'Rats favor.

We may soon become a nation of leftist city states and a vast pale threaded by roaming tribes of leftists trying to pick off the red knecks in fly over country.

If we can’t abolish parts of the government, does that mean we must begin anew? Is revolution the only answer? No, because when the RINO’s had the congress, they didn’t even try to fix the government. Folks like Newt and the illegal lover in SC, they didn’t want to fix it. They wanted to be in charge.

Nice try, but screaming "RINO" at everything really doesn't work for every thread.

Just having a Republican majority didn't help in the past because there wasn't a working majority of conservatives and the liberal Republicans from liberal states will always be a problem. And after forty years of Democrat rule of the government, plus the nightmare of impeachment to deal with, plus the war deficits and malcontent Third parties...its a wonder we ever sustained any majority at all.

Your nonsense about Newt isn't worth addressing.

hmmm.......we had a Republican president and both houses, yet we were not able to dismantle the largess. Just what do you consider a Republican? Are we not to be “conservative”? The RINO’s are the problem in the party. We don’t need a broad tent to cover the stench from the left. We have leftists in the Republican party, and they are the RINO’s. Whether you like it or not, they are here and they need to be run out if anything constructive is to be done. And Newt is not a poster boy of virtues. He has too much baggage and he supported the leftist in the NY23 race. He’s a faker.

This is the problem and this is the truth. Nothing will change until the ones with the microphones are put in check. The Republicans day after day had to defend themselves against Katie Couric, Keith Olberman, Dan Rather, Chris Matthews, Saturday Night Live, Dave Letterman, Jay Leno, Bruce Springsteen, Sean Penn, Barbra Streisand, Tom Hanks, Whoopie Goldberg, Oprah Winfrey, The Times, The New York Times, Newsweek, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times.....actually the list is endless.
