Krauthammer on Landrieu $100 Million Buyoff: 'It's a New Kind of Business as Usual'
Newsbusters ^ | Nov. 21, 2009 | Jeff Poor

Remember earlier this year when the new era of hope and change was ushered into Washington, D.C. and President Barack Obama made the statement on day one his policies would "represent a clean break from business as usual"?

Not so fast says Charles Krauthammer, columnist for The Washington Post and Fox News regular. Krauthammer on the Nov. 20 broadcast of Fox News "Special Report with Bret Baier" explained that a certain provision put into to the Senate version of health care legislation to favor undecided Democratic senators, specifically Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., represents a different brand of politics from what Obama advertised (emphasis added).

"You asked what [Sen.] Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas will ask for," Krauthammer said. "Well, after watching Louisiana get $100 million in what have some have called ‘The Louisiana Purchase,' she out to ask for $500 million at least. And that's because Obama said he would end business as usual in Washington. If you look at the sections, it is 2006 in which the Louisiana money, it looks as if it is provision for all states which have had a proclamation of a disaster area in the last seven years, and then the fine print inside eliminates all the others except Louisiana. So it's a new kind of business as usual.

I’m surprised the bill doesn’t say:

“$100 million for states beginning with the letter ‘L’...”

Then, Long Island might apply.

Who cares about soundbites?

There’s no stopping this. And you’ll be amazed how easily it will pass the Senate. A year from now, the attitude will be “We got socialized medicine, and the world didn’t end! Those demotards were right.” 2010 will not be a bloodbath, people forget. And the ugly stuff doesn’t hit until 2013, remember. That is deliberately planned.

The GOP will be lucky to pick up twenty seats in the House, maybe even ten. The republic has been dying for decades; the ascension of Teleprompter Jesus is just the arrival of the minister for the funeral. Barry was right, the Nation Below Canada is no more exceptional than Greece or Turkey or Zimbabwe. The voters have seen to that.

It is time to sack DC.

Cogent. Truthful. Witty. Funny. Pure gold.

A politician who would sell out the country for 100 million “deserves” to get cervical cancer and have to deal with government insurance.

The worst is what may come. The bills will go to committee and the anti-abortion measures that accounted for Nelson’s support and for the critical votes in the House will not be stripped but rendered ambiguous. The meaning will be left to the interpretation of the judges, and relevant cases will not come under after 2013 when the act goes into effect. meanwhile liberal bureaucrats will wrote regs that all abortions for some. The number will than be gradually increased until it will cover most pregnancies. Both bills amount to usurpation. Congress has absolutely no authority to mandate that any citizen buy any form of insurance, but that doe snot stop them, nor has to even occured to Republicans to say that this is the case. I am waiting for some Republican Senator actually to get up on the floor and talk until they force him to shut up by calling for a vote of cloture. None of this gentleman’s game.

The corruption is so much in the open. The rats have no shame. This is disgusting.

Maybe it won't pass. Maybe Reid is only bringing it up to satisfy the libs who say that the longer they wait the less chance of passing it.

If it does pass we need to declare war on every senator or congressman that voted for it.

Wouldn't it be something if "Sheets" Byrd had a lucid moment...stay with me now...Byrd pulled out his tattered pocket U.S. Constitution, waved it around in his formerly flamboyant way, and cried out that this health care overhaul bill must not be passed because our beloved Constitution does not permit legislators to abuse it in this way.

Oh well...back to reality.

Maybe possible, if Barack were not black.

The Dems must do this, for the One.

Rats will vote for cloture, saying they just want to move the process along. Then when it comes up for the real vote Dirty Harry will give cover to enough rats and let the really vulnerable ones vote no while getting enough yes votes for it to pass. The vote tomorrow tells the tale and those so called blue dogs who vote yes...they mean yes on the whole bill, not just the cloture, even if they try to cover their ass by using a valuable no vote in the end.

This is sick. They’re supposed to represent us and that’s a farce.

While I understand your, and all of our, outrage at such obvuis thievery bt an elected official, I'm going to have to distance myself from your wish of 'cervical cancer' here.
Tarred & feathered - sounds good to me.
Tied to a rail and ran out of town by local voters - no problemo.
Internet videos of the politician shot in a Mexican motel with donkeys, drunken angry midgets, people wearing masks with power-tools - let 'im rip.

But that thing with the Big C...nope. Not gonna go there.

Why is this not bribery or vote buying? Both of which are felonies - if you or I do it. I guess its because it’s not their money they’re using.

“THE CULTURE OF CORRUPTION IS OPEN UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT.” that’s what real men would be shouting today on the floor of the Senate.
