KABUL/HERAT: Eighty Taliban on Saturday laid down their weapons and joined Afghanistans police force, accepting a government amnesty aimed at ending a vicious insurgency, police said.
In a ceremony at police headquarters in the eastern city of Herat, the 80 men handed over their weapons and pledged to end their fight against the government, said Herat police chief Asmatullah Alizai.
Negotiations have been going on with their commander Solaiman, as we have been trying to absorb him into the government, he said, referring to Mula Solaiman, a former border guard commander who:
changed sides a number of times.
The decision by the 80 Taliban came after Afghan President Hamid Karzai again offered an olive branch to the Taliban to reintegrate into Afghan society.

Notice they were not asked to pledge to end their fight against US/NATO troops.......
Their sandbox, our blood.
holy crud. not good.
Is this kind of like letting the Muslims join our military?
This is kinda’ like offering mob hit men immunity if they join police force. No, nevermind, it’s exactly like that.
How many times do our troops have to shot down by friendlies before the commanders get their heads out of their asses?
Kinda like Liberal’s getting elected to Congress.........
Bring them home. The only thing being accomplished is the shed of innocent American lives and now, the police force is “packed”. The world sees America no longer has a CIC which makes our forces a ‘target’.
but these guys seem to have demonstrated that they at least lean towards it and they are going to be around our guys with access and weapons.
What could go wrong ?

80 Taliban join Afghan police

Reminds me of what happened in Iraq; corruption that’s taken years to work through.
You’re right of course that not all Muslims are terrorist. But it seems that all terrorists are Muslimes.
Not good.
There are an estimated 3,500 muslims in our military. Can't be stopped. There will be more Ft. Hood, Sgt. Akbar, etc. massacres.
“Can you imagine the US fighting WWII using today’s mindset of military use?”
I wonder if Russia would have won, or Germany?
Make em sign a contract, that’ll do it.
That is one of the main reasons we have pulled back from border crossing FOB's.
This is like marching an ex-con out of the prison into the police academy across the street.
Retreat, Re-group and Re-arm till the next truce.
All terrorists are jihadists, who are Muslims. Only Muslims can stop Muslims from becoming Jihadists, that is the key.
Think about it: if only 1 Muslim in 10,000 becomes a violent jihadist.....1.5 billion Muslims.....That's 150,000 violent jihadists in the world....
This coming on a day when an Afghan army soldier went Muslim and turned his gun on American soldiers...
Our commanders have no choice but to integrate and train with Afghans, orders from the top. There is no way to distinguish friendlies in Afghanistan.

They all asked for assignments on US bases!
A Trojan Horse without benefit of the Horse.
Where did you see that?
This is the equivalent of letting a bunch of Chicago community organizers take over out federal government!
Doesn’t look good over there. As Fred Thompson said, Obama’s heart just isn’t in it. I think it would be better to get off the pot, police our own borders.

As long as Senior Officers are allowed to direct combat operations around the world from behind barriers, In some cases 10,000 miles away in US Command Bunkers.
It is easy to calculate the benifits of a “demonstration of trust” the need to “get out from behind our Armor and up close to the (insert your local nut jobs of choice) when the guy issuing that order and making that calculation is in no immediate personal danger. Not even in a reasonably measurable degree of danger from such decisions.

Did they drive up in the belly of a wooden horse?
From the Afghan Army website” new army initially received $30 a month during training and $50 a month upon graduation, though pay for trained soldiers has since risen to $120.”
Taliban is getting from US$200 to US$300 per month to switch
sides.
What is the poor Afghan Army Soldier to do?
Great idea, guys!

But it seems that all terrorists are Muslims.

Those rates seem pretty high - like 95% or so?
Muslim extremists (some people estimate that is 10% of Islam - which is a LOT of people) are unique among agitator terrorist groups, in that they are quite willing to die, and are basically a death cult (they worship death and relish in its rewards (the virgins myth and such.))
How can other Muslims, knowing that your hard core are made up of such, that would just as easily murder women and children as bow down to Mecca 5 times/day, abide this spiritually and intellectually?
Doesn’t it make you wonder if Islam really is a spiritual/moral expression, and really isn’t more of a political/cultural expression?
When your most fervant followers want to murder and die, what sort of spiritual expression is that? We know that Satan is the father of lies (and has many disguises - the Bible tells us Satan masquerades as an ‘angel of light’ sometimes).
But extreme/fervant Islam seems pretty overtly Satanic, according to John 10:10 [”the devil comes to steal, kill and destroy. But I (Jesus) have come that you might have life and have it abundantly.”]
sorry, it was meant to be satirical. I wouldn’t trust those guys at all: sort of like the felons in prison who all find religion.
Yes, we are paying more to the locals that aren't doing poppy/heroin duty.
The kicker is that the Taliban is encouraging its fighters to collect from both sides. Our troops are refered to as ATM's.
All Afghans want to work on US bases, much more pay and much more parts to steal, intel to sell.
