Bullets are speeding faster out of gun shops in U.S.
The washington Post ^ | November 3, 2009 | David A. Fahrenthold and Fredrick Kunkle

In a year of job losses, foreclosures and bag lunches, Americans have spent record-breaking amounts of money on guns and ammunition. The most obvious sign of their demand: empty ammunition shelves.

At points during the past year, bullets have been selling faster than factories could make them.

Gun owners have bought about 12 billion rounds of ammunition in the past year, industry officials estimate. That's up from 7 billion to 10 billion in a normal year.

I'm really disappointed in this article. Although it does a fine job of discussing the generalities of why Americans are buying huge stocks of ammunition, something is grossly wrong!

The article states that "In between, in the 12 months since last October, gun shops sold enough bullets to give every American 38 of them".

Do some of you have more than your share?

I have concocted a new syllogism:

Not all people who have tattoos are wicked, but all wicked people have tattoos.

I like it, think it will catch on?

“It has happened, oddly, at a time when the two concerns that usually make people buy guns and bullets — crime and increased gun control — seem less threatening than usual.”

The Liberal media would like to convince Americans that gun control is on the back burner with this administration.

Absolutely. I have enough for my entire life and plenty for my family and friends.

It’s not like ammo will get cheaper anytime soon. It’s outperformed most investments.

I have thousands of rounds for every piece I own except my shotguns and Bulldog .44.

Only 38? That doesn't seem very many, does it? Maybe they're not including internet sales? I know I've been doing my part to help stimulate this economy!

It is all a real vote of confidence in the agenda and intent of the present administration and the people pulling the strings.

Of course. After all, we aren't communist equalitarians.

I think I've bought 2300 rounds of centerfire, and 2000 rounds of .22 LR since it became obvious that O'bummer was going to be The One. Also bought a new AR carbine, 1,050 of those rounds were for it, as were the 2,000 rounds of .22 LR (bought an adapter as well) . Need to order another 500 or 1000 of 5.56 and maybe 250 of .45 ACP (250 of the above total was .45, the rest were .30 carbine)

When my husband was buying his deer tag I noticed that there still was very little ammo left.

It is amazing some of the people who are stocking up on food too, even liberals. It is either a mass hysteria or the instinct to survive is kicking in.

Anybody ever come across a thread on a gunblog, where a guy was describing his move to Idaho. After getting to know his neighbor, he felt like he could confide to him “I have 30,000 rounds of ammunition for my guns”

The neighbor, in true Idaho fashion, replied “That’s OK, there is still time to buy more...”

I love that story!

I’m not sure of the connection between tattoos and bullets,so just let me add the image in the Shroud looks like Sammy Davis Jr. There, I said it.

When the dollar reaches zero in the near future bullets will be real currency.

I’ve got a very nice Benelli O/U .410 bore but I’m having trouble finding 3” shells. Any ideas? The 410 is most likely the last shells to be made, LOL, but it really is a good varmit gun and the neighbors don’t seem to mind.

I have more than my share of 9mm and 25caliber and just purchased a no frills mossberg 12 gauge pump shotgun and most of my ammo stash is now 12gauge 00 buckshot and plenty of birdshot. In Palm Springs 12 gauge is very plentiful. In fact 9mm is also. Not a lot of stores sell ammo but those that do seem to be well stocked here.
