Naeem Khan has dressed Beyonce, Alicia Keys and Katherine Heigl, but it appears to have taken First Lady Michelle Obama, who wore his custom-made strapless silver-and-cream gown to a state dinner Tuesday night, to make him a household name. (If Khan gets a smidgen of the press that Jason Wu and Isabel Toledo got for designing Obama's Inauguration Day ensembles. we'll be thrilled for him.)
Khan, an Indian-born designer who shows at New York Fashion Week, consistently turns out jaw-droppingly gorgeous eveningwear, though he has been branching out in recent seasons. His signatures are ethnic embroideries, dazzling colors, and bold embellishments, like this stunner worn by Keys to the BET Honors last year.
Khan says the gown took 40 people three weeks to complete at the designer's family workshop in India.

Well... she certainly worn worse.
Well chosen clothing for her. Looks good.
If she were paying for it with money that had been honestly made I’d be pleased for her.
She looks lovely! Her fashion sense and POSTURE have been awful, but it looks like she is finally getting some good management in her choice of clothes.
Very nice and appropriate for a State Dinner.
She represented us well. Her husband, well, that’s another story and one left out.
Wonder how much the taxpayers paid for this dress?
Maybe this designer can make a little something for Michelle to model and wear while she is in jail.
I agree, it looks nice. Could be the first time she’s worn something appropriate.
The boots go for about a grand.
“Khan says the gown took 40 people three weeks to complete at the designer’s family workshop in India.”
What would that cost in union wages?
I demand to know:
Inquiring minds want to know...
I wonder how many of them are children?
Looks like I should call my Grammy today and see if one of her drapes is missing.
Was it sewn by children being paid a penny a day??? ;)
Why can’t she dress like this all the time instead looking looking like a ghetto garage sale most of the time?
Obama had the chance to do something positive, like not act like an African dictator. He could have played the Marxist card and had his wife dressed in a common dress. Instead, he played the African dictator card.
He obviously likes the King Joffree role from “Coming to America.”
The Os are grads of the Rev. Wright School of Poverty and Public Service.
It’s somehow appropriate that the wife of the biggest Con should wear something by Khan.
It’s one of the few nice and appropriate things she’s worn. She might even look elegant. No boob belt either.
She actually looks nice. I worry more about the destruction that she and her husband have inflicted on the USA.
That isn’t nice.
It’s very unlikely she or the taxpayers paid a dime for it. For this sort of thing, that brings a designer fame, they tend to donate their time and labor. The dress is not considered the property of Michelle or the US. In some cases it’s donated to the Smithsonian to join their collection of “historic” First Ladies’ gowns.
Khan is usually a muslim name.
Something more modest up top and in price would have been appropriate. Dress is nice but not for Govt function.
Indian woman looks so modest and proper.
I agree, the dress is spectacular and in wonderful taste (for a change). She looks very nice indeed. Could have done a better job on her hair, but whatever. She looks like a lady and for once we can be proud of the appearance of our First Lady instead of feeling embarrassment. I’m glad to have these pictures of her in the international press instead of the sort of thing she usually wears.
We have got to get her to wear lipstick, though.
Probably because he is King Dork.
WELL that’s the way SSocialists behave!
Fooling crowds with demagogic fairy tales
“She looks lovely! “
Wookie Antoinette makes the Indians look like ewoks. Should have worn flats.
“She represented us well”.
...that’s a hot one! Since when could a Marxist thugess ever represent us well?
I distincly remember the left making comments about Laura Bush which were just awful.
I would hope that we have more tact and class than the feckless ninnies on the left.
Yeah but that dress created more jobs than the entire stimulus package did in all 57 states.
Looks very nice.
Now, how much did it cost MY FAMILY in order for her to wear it?
What’s Bubba Smith doing in a gold evening gown?
I care that the flaming socialist is parading around in designer gear while lording it over the proles. Again.
She has the ability to look either surprisingly good or absolutely atrocious - depending on hair, clothes an makeup.
At least now we know she doesn’t really need that boob belt.
Hey, seeing as everyone is employed here in the US why not support the workers in other countries. /sarc
Ya know? I am so glad to be seeing MO ‘not’ looking like a clown or a mentally disabled woman on the world stage, that I won’t complain about paying for this one.
The rear view looks like something out of the movie ‘Big Momma’s House!’
“Khan is usually a muslim name.”
This guy is a Sikh.
I believe the “black widow” outfit was a message to the country...
Let them eat cake ping!
Hey, No belt!
Very nice dress
Well, as I live and breathe, First Frump actually looks respectable for a change.
Wonder if she’s wearing a pair of her custom-made $900 boots underneath? You know, the kind that all those unemployed Americans are wearing when they shop at Goodwill.
The Indian PM is Sikh and Sikhs, very often, have the last name Khan.
“designers family workshop in India.
Hm-m-m-m-m, don’t I seem to remember some mention of “outsourcing” during the campaign? Oh, yeah, that issue is only a problem if a Republican is involved. It’s OK for First Frump to wear a dress made by slave labor.
