Los Angeles (AP) - The Washington Post will close its remaining U.S. bureaus in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago at the end of the year to save money and will focus news efforts on covering the nation's capital.
Six correspondents are being offered jobs in Washington, while three news aides will be let go Dec. 31.
In a staff memo Tuesday, Executive Editor Marcus Brauchli told workers that the paper needed to concentrate its "journalistic firepower" on its central mission of covering Washington, D.C.
In the last decade, the paper has closed bureaus in Miami, Denver and Austin, Texas.
The Washington Post Co.'s earnings increased 69 percent in the third quarter partly due to cost-cutting measures. The company also owns Newsweek magazine, Kaplan education services and television properties.
Which, after it's 'attack' cover story on Gov. Palin should help sink that worthless rag!
If they corner themselves in the DC area they will soon die along with liberalism. The same can be said for the network news programs. Every day they are losing viewers.
It all has to do with the company you keep! Funny how they were the first leading source of the new age of change and hope in America last January and in a about one year they have withered and died. You had a choice....
All these schmucks deserve nothing less than to be shunned right out of business for their biased, unfair, childish, hatefilled, B.S. reporting! Just like society, when you weaken or all together get rid of standards, you’re doomed to fail...despicable prix!
as long as these frauds have even one office open, nothing changes since the make it all up each day anyway.
Do Not Resuscitate!
I know people here are rejoicing thinking it is liberalism that is causing the problem
All print media is in trouble
If that darned algore just hadn’t invented the internet, the
very old print media would still be controling what lies they distributed.
They put themselves out of business and they are still wondering why no one wants to buy their pinko rag.
DIS... you gravy sucking pig!
“All print media is in trouble”
Which conservative media are going down?
DIE... you gravy sucking pig!
The Washington Times is swirling the drain.
I had not heard that.
Yay! Death to the left wing fish wrap. Imagine how the laid-off reporters will suffer in this market, it warms the cockles of my heart. Bast@rds.
When will American society be lucky enough that they close the Washington DC bureau? One can only hope. Have a great Thanksgiving.
