Democrats Work On Multibillion-Dollar Jobs Package Lawmakers say they're moving fast to get a job-creation bill to Obama by January. It's unclear how much of the effort would be funded with deficit spending.
Peter Nicholas November 26, 2009
Reporting from Washington - Troubled by the rising jobless rate, President Obama and the Democratic majority in Congress are assembling a new jobs package that would devote billions of dollars to projects meant to put people back on payrolls in 2010 and keep them working.
Discussions over the scale of the bill are fluid, but lawmakers said the intent was to move swiftly and get a jobs bill to Obama's desk as early as January.
The renewed push to create jobs is driven by a recognition that the $787-billion stimulus program enacted in February is not a sufficient remedy for an unemployment rate that stands at 10.2%. Nearly 16 million people were unemployed as of October, and 3.49 million jobs have been lost since January -- the first month of Obama's presidency, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The stimulus boosted employment but "did it in a way that was not as highly visible as a lot of people would like," said U.S. Rep. Betty Sutton (D-Ohio), one of the House members devising the jobs bill. "It did so in somewhat of a scattershot approach -- a job here and a job there, trickled out over time. . . . Far too many Americans are without a job, and far too many more are worried about what tomorrow is going to bring."
Congressional aides said the new program could cost tens of billions of dollars. Democratic House members who were disappointed that the stimulus wasn't larger said they will press for a substantial spending plan this time.

What will it take to stop this know nothing from trying to fix something he doesn’t understand?
Translation: How to turn a recession into a depression.
The trillions wasted on the so-called stimulus wasn’t enough for these idiots.
It’s truly funny how politicians believe they can somehow magically “create jobs” by simply passing legislation and moving money around.
Idiot Administration. They may not be idiots for attempting to drive our economy into the ground, because by now it is obvious they mean to have the country enslaved to the government, but they are idiots for thinking we don’t see this.
In one month they could turn this around by dropping the tax burden on businesses and individuals, across the board. Everyone needs to think that things will get better in 2010, and that would do the trick. It’s not [bleeping] rocket science. It’s not even global warming science.
Democrats...one step forward, ten steps back. EVERYTHING this administration has done has only compounded our economic misery. With no end in sight.
More union jobs... If you're unemployed, you can be a flagman on a repaving project.

IT DIDNT DO JACK, YOU DUMBASS!
People that set up scams to get this loot must be thinking that they’ve hit the motherload.
How can it not be "deficit spending"? All government spending is deficit spending when we are trillion$ in debt.
But, we can’t give these “brick and mortar” jobs to white male construction workers. Remember Robert Reich has concerns about stimulus money being targeted in that way. So there will have to be some minority set-asides if they do this, to celebrate diveristy or some such thinking.
This will just create more temporary, make work jobs and they will tax the productive to make it happen. When the $$ is gone, we’ll be left with nothing to show for it, except (of course) more dependency and debt. Tax breaks for businesses would be far superior to this—at least then the “jobs” created would benefit productive enterprises.
“But, we cant give these brick and mortar jobs to white male construction workers. Remember Robert Reich has concerns about stimulus money being targeted in that way. So there will have to be some minority set-asides if they do this, to celebrate diveristy or some such thinking.”
But it wound up that he worry wasn’t need. In the end, no one got the jobs.
That's because you threw the money into Congressional Districts that didn't exist, dummy!
Didn't the "Chicoms" teach him anything when he was over there?
It’s the Pelosicrats plan to make jobs through red ink. It won’t work. You don’t borrow money to create jobs. You borrow money to create or increase production, and the resulting markets determine job creation. The only thing the Obamao organization and the Pelosicrats create is debt. These people are idiots.
This is the tip that the new plan will be in the 300 billion dollar range...
Democratic House members who were disappointed that the stimulus wasn't larger said they will press for a substantial spending plan this time.
Never mind previous comment. It will cost in the quadrillion dollar range.
Pretty much all of it, Peter.
Peter is a moron.
Another big fat liberal lie.
Another spending spree.
Tried it once it didn’t work of course, because it wasn’t intended to ‘create jobs’. Government can not create jobs. But they sure can spend and indebt the citizenry.
Better contact your Representatives and say NO.
We know that is going to be at least 4 trillion dollars.
This ultimate piece of crap King Obama does understand. And his agenda is to destroy free enterprise system and convert America to communists control and ownership of all business. Check Venezuela, that's us and this turd is using our vary Constitution to destroy and place all citizens in slavery.
That's a five minute job.
Remove the Bush tax cuts, raise taxes on all, and divvy out "free" health care.
If they could they would try to include something as idiotic as a war tax or another investment tax....
How to turn a democratic republic into a dictatorship via martial law.
Oh I see, they stopped counting at four months.
Yep, that makes everything all better now, so here's
your bandaid to cover up that concussion.
Just what we need, more nonvalue added gov’t employees.
***banging head against wall***
Yep, common sense macroeconomic principles will elude this Stimulus by Democrats too
