i have no idea but a shot is fired across that straight and oil is at 300
with depression now with oil north of $ 10.00 per gallon
those silkworms are sufficient for all tanker traffic and Iran will light up the sky

Well alrighty then! Israel should send the Russians a big thank you bouquet and go ahead and take out those pesky nuclear facilities before these are installed!
To: Go Gordon
Back in 2006, Syria had S-300 systems to defend their airspace. The Israelis spoofed them successfully and destroyed the reactor site that had been built in NE Syria. The Russians have improved their software since then - that was a real nasty surprise.

They still do, to keep Israeli fighters away from their nuke facilities.

No, they didn’t. At the time the only modern SAMs (Pantsir-S1) in the Syrian inventory were short-range SAMs.
To: Constantine XI Palaeologus
Yep. A little research shows that you are correct. And the strike occurred in 2007, not 2006. Faulty memory on my part.

Yes, but I don’t think the S-300...

Doesn’t matter... It’ll be over in days, before the current contracts even notice it, it will be down again.

Looking into this the S-300 components seem to have been around for quite some time. Why would the Israelis have a problem with it?

Syria does but it was defeated by the Suter when the Israelis attacked their reactor.Suter is a military computer program developed by BAE Systems that attacks computer networks and communications systems belonging to an enemy

Russian S-300 missile systems, also known affectionately as "targets."

This one can be used against Air/Ground/Sea targets,,, If this damned thing has a fail-safe over-ride on it Iran will be able to hit any state in the gulf with a nuke,,, This is a proven system,,, Ain't junk...:0/

I don’t know why they’d have too much of a problem with it. The Israelis did have a joint exercise with Greece that enabled the Israelis to test their aircraft against the Greek (originally Cypriot) S-300s.
To: Constantine XI Palaeologus
That said, I would expect the Russians to have made updates by now.
To: Flavius
Looks like Bibi will have to move that timetable up a bit. I agree with you...the strait of Hormuz will be closed for at least a month or more and oil will shoot to 3 or 4 hundred a barrel. Gas will be $10 a gallon if it’s available at all.

Russia ‘will’ deliver S-300 to Iran in 2 months ...............................Hidden message here?
To: Flavius
The risk has been the same since 1979...
What is funny is that we’ve had it under control since the 80’s...
But some countries like Russia just love to see chaos, and potential conflict that would benefit their economy...
Like someone else said here...Those S-300 systems are targets...
It really is all about who will blink first over there...
To: Constantine XI Palaeologus
The Israelis were testing any new countermeasures that they have probably developed(Suter Program)

This is what a typical S-300 missile site looks like. This is from a Chinese missile base

Really? If so, I’d be annoyed if I were the Greeks. If the Israelis were doing that, wouldn’t the Greeks be undermining their own equipment (although I guess they also have Patriots)?
To: 1COUNTER-MORTER-68
yea, this sale has been pending for some time
lot of analyst and think-tank types believe this is a red line for the Israelis and that they would attack before the S-300 was operational as it would make the already difficult task at hand that much tougher

Lets have a frame of reference. This is the Greek Air Defense Network. I think that the Greeks may have let the Israelis because they are "allies" and the exercise more realistic.

I figured the Greeks would be kind of leery of helping out the Israelis too much, given the relatively (until recently) close ties the Israelis have with the Turks. I just wouldn’t see the trade off as being of significant benefit for the Greeks.
To: Constantine XI Palaeologus
Relations are souring beween the Turks and the Israelis. The Israels may have new friends if Turkey continues its path of Radicalism.

Iraq had old antiquated Soviet systems that were 70’s vintage, with the Syrians having early 80’s vintage hardware and software.

If Greece has the S-300, than the US has got to have a demonstrator model (Greece is part of NATO).

Given that Russian-made planes in Iran crash every few months, who knows, the missiles may turn out to be like this:
To: sonofstrangelove
True, but still, compromising your security (although, I don’t know how much the Greeks need the S-300s given they have Patriots too) to help someone who’s only a moderate ally at best seems a bit much. In fact, given past Israeli-Turkish cooperation, the Greeks might view the Israelis as a hostile for all I know. I just find it hard to believe the Greeks would just let the Israelis poke and prod their air defenses without something in return. Anyways, thanks for the info :) .
