ISLAMABAD: Pakistani religious groups on Monday condemned a referendum in Switzerland that saw voters approve a ban on the construction of mosque minarets, calling it 'extreme Islamophobia.'
Switzerland on Sunday voted in favour of a ban on new mosque minarets - the towers or turrets attached to mosques from which Muslims are traditionally called to prayer - prompting dismay and anger in the Muslim world.
'This development reflects extreme Islamophobia among people in the West,' said Khurshid Ahmad, vice president of Jamaat-e-Islami, a Islamic political party that is represented in Pakistan's parliament.
'This also represents very serious discrimination against Muslims.' Pakistan is the world's second most populous Muslim nation.
The far-right Swiss People's Party (SVP) had forced a referendum after collecting a mandatory 100,000 signatures from eligible voters.
Conservative Swiss politicians argued that the minarets were not architectural features with religious characteristics, but symbolised a 'political-religious claim to power, which challenges fundamental rights.'
Ahmad described the Swiss decision as a serious violation of human rights and international law, telling AFP: 'This is an effort to provoke Muslims and prompt a clash between Islam and the West.'

Why call it islamophobia? Phobia means fear, the Swiss are telling the islamofascists to go to hell. Doesn’t sound like fear to me.
They ought to just sick the home owner’s association on them.
More to the point,
a “phobia” is an IRRATIONAL fear.
There’s nothing irrational about pushing back against the Islamist takeover of Western Civilization.
Where did the Swiss muslims come from? It is virtually impossible to settle in Switzerland, much less gain citizenship. Are these muslims brought in to do manual labor? Could all Europeans be as stupid as American’s to have basically destroyed their birthright for some cheap labor.
"I won't drink your chocolate"
bttt
What’s more, they say it is irrational and then they say that such action will only provoke Islamic violence.
Their dishonor is palpable. They themselves ban churches in Saudi Arabia. Forget banning Crosses on Churches, they ban the Churches themselves! They never cared about preserving “tolerance” and “diversity”. It was always about conquest.
That'll teach us infidels.
It would at least reduce terrorism to around zero incidents per year.
But of course there is nothing wrong with totally banning the construction of churches throughout much of the Islamic countries.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find only things evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelogus
Isn't it preposterous?
"Let us into your culture - you have nothing to fear... and if you don't let us in we'll kill you"
Isn’t it just possible that, after many centuries of a pastoral ‘look’, the Swiss simply don’t want ugly posts sticking up and ruining the pastoral landscape? All those postcard picture opportunities of the Alps would not be enhanced by an ugly spike sticking up in the middle of the scene.
That seems to me to be simply a matter of taste, not a phobia of any kind.
Poor things. Maybe if they would stop the head cutting, neck slicing, genital mutilation, blowing up planes, blowing up buses with schoolchildren, blowing up trains, blowing up wedding celebrations, blowing up their kids with bomb vests, yelling and screaming through their dirty beards - then we might start liking them.
Not to mention that terrible wailing at sunrise and sunset.
Restrictions on the practice of Islam is one of the universally agreed (by Imam) times that jihad (personal struggle) is permitted to become JIHAD (holy war). The more dangerous it becomes, the harder it is to block it. But Islam is not so tolerant of other faiths brought into muslim dominant nations.
Don’t you know that kufir are sub-human? Islamic supremacists practice apartheid. Yet Jimmy Carter does the bidding of his Saudi masters and declares that Israel practices apartheid.
