DC's "black community" - a majority of the population - will have the opportunity to vote out these council members. Does anyone think they will do it?

At least some of them. Oh yes. The black megachurches are vehemently opposed to this.

Unfortunately, the Black churches hate whitey more than they oppose homosexuality. They are stuck forever in 1954, Emmett Till's body is still awaiting burial, and no issue appears on the radar screen other than those dealing with race and poverty.

Ah me . . . how I long for the days when my own Republican party would wave the bloody shirt.

There are plenty of conservative blacks in DC, even though they vote Democrat. Those megachurch pastors are going to recruit THEM to run against the Democrats currently on the Council. Marion Barry, whatever his personal feelings (and I have no knowledge of those), made exactly the right decision politically by opposing this. His job is safe.

I'm sorry if I seem harsh, but for many years I have been expecting Blacks to draw a "line in the sand" if the liberals ever went too far, and it hasn't happened. I've also been very disappointed at the "party-line" pro-"gay" position of many "Black leaders," from the King family to Jackson and Sharpton, to just about every Black politician in the country (what kind of "fundamentalist" churches were these people raised in?). I suppose my disappointment has turned me cynical.

It is still a very sad fact of life that Blacks, who are a major component of (and therefore very influential in) the liberal coalition are still fixated on the issues of 1954--race and poverty. Moral issues are a distraction to them--the ones who aren't on the wrong side.

Go to the web sites of Black church organizations like either of the National Baptist Conventions and you will see that left wing talking points still trump moral conservatism for them. They demand that Black districts be represented by Black people, but don't seem overly concerned about issues like homosexuality or abortion.

If Marion Barry has broken the stereotype then I'm all for him. Believe it or not, I don't make a big issue of things like welfare and affirmative action and believe that making those core issues of conservatism is a mistake. But Black social conservatives could have participated in and altered the conservative movement to be less fixated on economic doctrines. Instead most Blacks have chosen to be faithful to the liberal coalition over and above all other considerations.

Jackson has argued that the BOEE's decision amounts to a denial of the civil rights of DC voters, especially members of the federal district's black community, who adamantly opposes same-sex "marriage" and would vote to preserve the natural definition of marriage if given the opportunity.

And that's precisely why the citizens of DC were not allowed to vote on it. Same as the citizens of MA. The DEMS in the State Legislature made sure we wouldn't get that chance.
