Obama did his part, now conservatives have to do ours (Frum on knees for President Present again)
Hot Air ^ | 12/02/09 | David Frum

Having urged the president to honor his commitment to the Afghan war, we Republicans must honor our commitment to support him as he fights it. Given the public unenthusiasm for the conflict, there will be political temptations to “go rogue” on the president, if not now, then in the summer of 2010. That will be our test, for us to pass as the president has passed his. I know many Republicans and conservatives will say: “Hey – the Democrats did not give President Bush support when he most needed it.” Correct. They didn’t. And the country suffered for it. The right way to react to that dereliction of duty is not by emulating it, but by repudiating it. “For it before I was against it” has deservedly become an epithet for shameful wavering. Let’s not inflict it upon ourselves.

*snicker*

Is there someone, somewhere, that takes this guy seriously? I know he gets play on the State-Sponsored Media but that is just because he is a pretend right-sider who “dares to go against the flow”.

Thanks frumpy for proving once again that there truly are people running about whose feet don’t quite touch the ground...

Frum wants us to support a half-assed job by Osama?

WE should help this fraud continue to destroy our country?

Destroy our military?

Destroy the economy?

Destroy health care?

Frum, put down the crack pipe and get back to Canada, if they’ll have you.

Our part? Personally, I feel that the Taliban and Al Qaeda should be totally defeated and put in a position where they can never hurt anybody again. Similar to the Nazis in World War II.

Oh shut up Frum, you aren’t a conservative. What a fool he is.

Obozo will get no support from me. He has designed a formula for deaths and no victory.

Might as well come home from this farce now.

Frum identifying himself as a conservative reminds me of those liberal trolls that show up here in FR with screen-names like "ReaganLover" or "UltraConservative".

He's a seminar pundit.

“There was a Duke of York,
he had 30,000 men,
he marched up to Afghanistan,
and he marched them down again;
When you’re up, you’re up,
and when you’re down, you’re down,
But when you’re only half way up,
You’re neither up nor down.”

This is BullStalin.

Mr. President needs to put on his big man pants and step up as COMMANDER IN CHIEF. He still is not providing the resources that were asked for and is offering it long after the request.

Too little, too late.

With the announcement of a cut and run date, the men on the front lines are serving as cannon fodder.

The wimp in chief was unwilling to act before the 2009 election.

I will call him out on it. He needs to crap or get off the pot on Afghanistan. What is the mission? Capture Bin Laden, as he pledged in the campaign? Fight the “Right war in the Right place”? We already know that he will not permit us to declare “victory”.

So what are we fighting for?

I do not oppose the war. I oppose the pantywaisted efforts to tie our soldiers arms behind their backs and telling them to “march onward”.

How many legal persecutions of our own troops have there been already?

The REAL war criminals are the Islamonazi terrorists yet they are given CIVILIAN COURTS in AMERICA when they never set foot here and were captured on the battlefield.

The shadow government is tearing down our institutions.

I think this author is confused. We all support the troops, at least I think we do. However, I am not sure what about President Obama’s speech we are supposed to support. The 30,000 heros? Victory (no mention of that)? The strategy and time line? both of which shouldn’t be revealed to the enemy.

There was nothing that President Obama said that would require any new support from the Republicans.

I think it will go down as the most worthless speech a CIC ever said in regards to leading a nation at war.

BS ... he's got us "negotiating" an "uncommitted war." I'm not about to commit myself to support this! If he would have come out and said, we're going to be VICTORIOUS regardless of the cost ... then I'd be with him. But I'm not about to "commit" to a "politically correct" war. This is insanity.

Watch out guys, if Frum says it, then expect McCain to do it. Deep thoughts for short people. I think our best bet is to call the strategy a political charade and make the dembots defend it. Helping them is a lose-lose situation for us. This be bammy’s war - and every dembot needs to support their candidate, conservatives and independents can now clearly state that there is nothing to win so lets get out. You don’t conduct a counterinsurgency on an 18-month schedule. It doesn’t work that way. So bammy wants the window dressing of C-in-C without any tough decisions, it is our duty to call him out on his mediocrity and make his supporters defend the indefensible. After 8 years of the dembots saying Afghan was the right war and Iraq the unwinnable one, lets put it to them to defend their beliefs and deep thoughts.

“That will be our test, for us to pass as the president has passed his.”

“Passed his”? Not hardly. A half measure is no measure at all. It’s almost like providing our military with guns without ammo and then making a big deal out of how you armed them for war....a half measure.

Obama has failed yet again. I see this entire thing as little more than a delayed “cut & run”. The Troops he is now reluctantly sending, are going to be there to help the others pack for the pullout. Sending these Troops is no less of a show than the manipulative show trials he has personally blessed against the Bush administration.

I support our Troops and I support the war against terrorism. I support killing every last one of them.

I will support Obama as CIC, (even though I hate his guts) the very moment that he supports our Troops and fights this war as a war. He has not done this with his political gamesmanship and he shows no signs of changing.

Obama is Americas First Failed Black Pres-dent.....

But we conservatives are doing our part, we are, as William F. Buckley, Jr. put it “stand[ing] athwart history, shouting ‘Stop!’”

I seem to recall that he made the remark in response to a question about what the “program of conservatism is” and that continued by saying, “That is program enough to annoy the left and keep the nation free.”

I agree, just as this man will go down as the most worthless CIC ever to lead, this greatest free nation on the face of the earth.

Having urged the president to honor his commitment to the Afghan war, we Republicans must honor our commitment to support him as he fights it.

Can Frum actually point out significant Republicans who are not supporting any effort to fight the war? The only objection I've seen is due to Obama's setting a withdrawal timetable. Otherwise, GOP support is FAR more solid than Dem support.
