Americans turning away from the world as isolationism rises to highest level since Vietnam war

Americans are turning their backs on the rest of the world, showing a tendency towards isolationism that has risen to the highest level in four decades, according to a poll published yesterday.

Almost half (49 per cent) said the U.S. should 'mind its own business' internationally and let other countries get along as best they can, the Pew Research Center found.

The results appear to conflict with President Obama's activist foreign policy, including a newly announced build-up of 30,000 U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

Only 32 per cent of those questioned favoured increasing U.S. troops in Afghanistan, while 40 per cent favoured decreasing them.

And fewer than half, or 46 per cent, of those polled said it was somewhat or very likely that Afghanistan would be able to withstand the radicals' threat.

Forty-one per cent of those surveyed said the U.S. plays a less important and powerful role as a world leader than it did a decade ago, up from 25 per cent who said that just before the September 11 attacks, the report said.

Pew Research Center president Andrew Kohut said the 'very bad economy' appeared most responsible for the growth of isolationist feeling.

He said the public was also 'displeased with the wars we are waging in Iraq and Afghanistan'.

While isolationism and unilateralism reached four-decade highs among the public, the stature of China increased.

Among Americans polled, 44 per cent said China was the world's leading economic power compared with 27 per cent who named the U.S.

In February 2008, 41 per cent said the U.S. was the leading economic power, while 30 per cent said China.

Wrong, those people polled were not Americans. I will appeal to Patton when he talked about Americans hating a loser. America will hate a loser even if it is its self. The pussies who want to lose the Afghanistan war are not Americans, they are pussies. Republicans better know that American does not lose wars, we win. Any President responsible for losing a war belongs in prison. Why should good Americans risk their lives if a President does not risk prison. When I learned about leadership, I learned that the leaded held the greatest responsibility. America has the capability to win any war within three months. If a President is incapable of winning a war within 4 years he should be imprisoned. Let the next President bail him out by winning the war, says I.

By that reckoning, Bush would be in jail. For political/diplomatic reasons, we are incapable of winning any more. We don’t and we won’t give the military the chance.

It is time America takes care of it’s own. No more foreign aid for the europeans, islamic terrroist depots, africa(aids inc.) We need to pull our troops from Germany and the other non essential countries and put our military on our borders to protect us.

We should stop the handouts and rebuild our military like it was under President Reagan.

The Keyan needs to be impeached and returned back to his muslim mecca, to include his POS supporters.

Words for thought,
Molon Labe-NSNR
P.S. You and I are among the few, who will post what needs to be said and done in our country. I post to many on the FR, but most are too afraid to reply.

Good map. Even though it omits Africa.

But there's nothing good there except diamonds anyway.

Why did you modify the original picture? Why is Africa and its caption missing?

Didn't you want to call us racists as well as stupid? You wanted to insult us...but not go all the way with the race card. Don't pussy foot around...just go ahead and vent your bile towards Americans.

Here is the real picture, unmodified. It is only slightly more insulting so it is amusing that you felt you had to PC it up. Feel free to move to/stay in whatever brain trust of a country you wish you were in/hale from.

That pic is easily countered by one captioned "The World According to Islam." In theirs, bombs go everywhere...no need to specify a region. Even an ignorant American like me knows that. So much for your propaganda.
