It does not matter how much you modify a mortgage, if the mortgagee is unemployed and cannot make the payments no matter how cheap they are.

What a great idea! I think I'll stop paying my mortgage immediately. Within a few months, I should qualify, saving me thousands.

Also, I didn't hear anyone saying they wanted to increase their principal when their property values were going up!

Wouldn’t reducing the principal on a mortage, trigger the CDS written on it?
