GOP cautions Obama against climate commitment
The Associated Press
Friday, December 04, 2009
WASHINGTON Even as he prepares to argue for action at the international climate conference, President Barack Obama is getting some reminders of the domestic political divide and anxiety over climate change.
Twenty congressional Republicans, including the top House GOP leadership, sent a letter to the president Friday expressing their "grave concern" that the U.S. delegation might commit to mandatory greenhouse gas emissions reductions.
"Only a treaty ratified by the United States Senate or legislation agreed to by Congress may commit our nation to any mandatory emissions reduction program," wrote the Republican lawmakers.
"Congress has the sole responsibility to approve such a program," they added, asking for clarification "that the U.S. negotiators will not commit our government to an emissions reduction protocol at Copenhagen.'"
The letter was signed by the two top ranking Republicans in the House, Rep. John Boehner of Ohio and Eric Cantor of Virginia, and 18 other GOP lawmakers including a number of committee chairmen. It reflected their strong opposition to legislation that would reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions from power plants and industry by 17 percent by 2020.
The House narrowly passed the bill last summer, but it has stalled in the Senate, which is expected to take up climate legislation in the spring.
Obama has said the United States is prepared to commit to reductions in the 17 percent range by 2020 in negotiations at Copenhagen.
But how much of a commitment the Obama administration is prepared to make at Copenhagen has worried some congressional Democrats as well.

Obama will sign the treaty which will be enforced by the EPA under the authority of the Supreme Court.
They better caution him a heck of a lot more forcefully than that.
A special prosecutor needs to be appointed because the conspiracy reaches into the White House, Congress, National Science Foundation, and involves misappropriation of government money taken from the taxpayers.
My God - think of all the lost research grants!
But then there is this “Treaty embroilment is so dangerous and so important, that to further limit and restrict their making, Article II, Section 2, Paragraph 2 orders that the President: “...shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur”
I would like to see the Republicans come out and say that the "global warming" agenda has been revealed as a multi-billion-dollar fraud; actions to push the agenda before may have been in good faith, but anyone who continues to push the agenda after the Hadley revelations shall be deemed to be complicit in the fraud. Complicity in a multi-billion dollar fraud would in turn be regarded as a "high crime".
The Republicans wouldn't have enough votes to impeach Obama, but if Obama continues to push the agenda and there is an unsuccessful vote to impeach him, those who vote not to impeach Obama may find themselves in trouble in November of 2010.
Actually that’s pretty much exactly what I was thinking when I said “forcefully”.
The only thing I disagree with you about is the amount of money. According to my digging I’m finding some 10 trillion in investments in the fraud at the hands of the world’s biggest banks already.
Also, we must not forget that Obama sat on the board of the Joyce foundation when they gave money that funded the opening of the Chicago climate exchange.
Investigate NASA, the UN and the EPA. These are homegrown criminal frauds on our side of the pond. Conservative computer geeks, get busy!
You would think that Liberals would feel LIBERAted to know that they no longer have to worry about Climate Change. But you know, they changed there names to Progressives now, so they really don’t give a damn about liberating anyone, just progressing government enslavement.
And he proves once more that he is a traitor!
Nothing will be done until....
“Obama will sign the treaty which will be enforced by the EPA under the authority of the Supreme Court.”
And if a dozen states tell king obuma and the SC to take a flying leap, then what?
He doesn’t have to get the treaty ratified. O Bama can sign anything he wants, and then just skip the ratification process. He can enforce the treaty through regulations.
According to the Supreme Court of the United States, the Environmental Protection Agency has the authority to enact anything they deem necessary to curb CO2 “pollution”.
“He doesnt have to get the treaty ratified. O Bama can sign anything he wants, and then just skip the ratification process. He can enforce the treaty through regulations.”
You make an excellent point, Jeff Chandler. Most people aren’t aware of how our left wing presidents destroy our freedoms through the illegal federal bureaucracy. Been going on since the fascist FDR.
When the US Senate rejected the Bio-Diversity Treaty back in 1994, the pig Clinton told his fascist bureaucrats to illegally implement the treaty anyway. And the pigs did.
I’ve always said that Clinton should have impeached for that, not the stupid blue dress. And the natural resource federal bureaucrats should have been hanged.
We’re in a fight for our lives because of the chickensh*t republican congress back in 1996.
We’re living under an unelected, unaccountable bureaucratic dictatorship. And sooner or later we need to confront that, philosophically, mentally and with appropriate actions if the courts or politicians won’t clean it up.
Again, excellent observation on your part.
