Good. I’m sick and tired of Mexico, its people and their imperialist bullsh!t. This isn’t their country, we aren’t some F’ing Wal-Mart here for their benefit so they can just stroll on in here and we’re supposed to just put up with it.

Fine by me.

However, people don’t go to “prison” for 25 days, they go to jail.

The federal government is also setting up water stations to help illegals make the trip across the border.

The bureaucrats and politicians who came up with the idea should be going to prison too. And for a lot more than 25 days.

I’m for keeping out illegals, that is my bound duty to my country.

However my bound duty to Jesus Christ and God is to give someone dying of thirst water. Period.

No one on Free Republic or a judge can convince me otherwise. The guy didn’t let them stay in his home, he didn’t give them a ride across the border. He left water so that those already here wouldn’t die. Prison is ridiculous for this.

I think this guy may have been featured on a National Geographic Explorer episode on the NatGeo Channel. He leaves cartons of bottled water at stations under scrub mesquite trees.

When I was working in the oilfields in Texas and when I was working on our ranch out here, Illegal Mexicans used to come right up to the drilling rigs or where we were herding and ask for food and water. I am all against illegal immigration but I won’t deny a hungry man some of my food or a thristy man some of my water.

That’s sick. Anyone who would risk their life crossing a desert to come work in this country makes a d@mn site better American than the many indolent ungrateful slobs who enjoy each unemployment extention and eagerly await the advent of free healthcare merely because they had the blessing to be born here.

For aiding and abetting criminals to enter the USA a 25 day sentence is a joke. Make it 25 years... to life.

I'm so confused on this one... I don't want to tolerate illegal aliens sneaking across our borders, but I don't want them to die trying, either. So, I'd be opposed to the GOVERNMENT offering water in this circumstance, but I can't quite see how an act of individual charity equals Federal punishment (going to jail now only because Staton argued about his previous sentence to community service.)

In fact, it seems that the only crime was leaving the water (littering), not the actual act of trying to help the IA's. If he just stood in the desert and gave the water out as needed, there'd be nothing to charge the guy with! Of course, if the same imperial overlords were actually doing their job (one of the few things our government is actually supposed to be doing, a la the Constitution, Article I, Section 8: "...suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions", Mr. Staton wouldn't have any IAs to give water to!! Good grief.

If you want to punish the guy, how about making his "community service" related to cleaning-up the mess the IAs make on their trip...

There might be a special place in Hell for a judge who would make a ruling like this.

the most humanitarian thing we could do for those poor people struggling to get across the desert would be ...

to build a big wall....

in the middle of a 1/2 mile stretch of open nothingness...

electrified.

and since the 1/4 mile south of the wall would also be America, just standing at the wall would be grounds for being shot

ok, maybe my patience is running thin tonight, but illegals seem to be the source of all my grief... at all levels of government

I love it. Jail for littering. What comes around, goes around.

People like him could never stand out in the desert and hand out water. That’s beneath them.

Put him naked and spread eagle out in the desert for about 12 hours, say 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, on a July 4th. We don't have an adequate range of punishments for these bizarre individuals
