Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus office confirmed late Friday night that the Montana Democrat was carrying on an extramarital affair with his state office director, Melodee Hanes, when he nominated her to be U.S. attorney in Montana.
According to a source familiar with their relationship, Hanes and Baucus began their relationship in the summer of 2008 nearly a year before Baucus and his wife, Wanda, formally separated in April. The Senator has since divorced his wife.
Hanes ended her employment with Baucus in the spring of this year.
Hanes, who is divorced and now lives with Baucus in the Eastern Market neighborhood of Washington, D.C., ultimately withdrew her name from consideration for the U.S. attorney position in order to move to Washington, and she now works in the Justice Departments Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention as a counselor to the administrator.
Baucus spokesman Tyler Matsdorf said the relationship was not the cause of Baucus divorce and that Baucus did not arrange for her current position with DOJ.

Gee, I’m sure the MSM will be all over this. Yeah, I know, it won’t happen.
Well, well, isn’t that special? Will there be an Ethics Committee investigation? There would be if Baucus were a Republican.
Uh Huh.
Low life. Plain depotism.
Hmmmmmm............
“Yeah, I know, it wont happen.”
Really! It’s not as if he were a Republican, after all/s;)
Amazing how those openings show up, so the old mans honey can milk the tax payers. The whole story reminds me of a weird fat man named Newt.
E-X-T-R-A-C-T from office
How convenient, too, that he was just reelected and ain’t up again until 2014 (which will be his 40th anniversary in Congress).
Is Baucus up for reelection in 2010?
You might want to ping the Montana list.
From what I can tell, Max is not listed as a friend.

Word on the street is that Bauchs’s approval ratings back home are going south. If only this had come out sooner.
You answered my questiion six seconds before I asked it.
Many people set their privacy settings so that others cannot see them - only the people who have friended them can see them.
You’ll see their names appear in black when they make comments on other people’s pages.
You can’t click on them - but they can click on you.
Even if this had happened, say, 14 months ago, his “Republican” opponent last year was an elderly ex-Green Socialist who was to the left of Baucus.
These are the kind of people who want to tell us what’s good for us. These are the kind who want to manage our lives and our healthcare from the federal establishment. These are the kinds of people who want us to trust them to make sound decisions.
How's the Senator's golf game, anyway?
Politicians are such scum it is hard to describe it. It would be almost comical if it were not so sad for America.
Colleagues should start calling him “Senator Woods”.
But that would probably just be an ego boost for this type of criminal.
A just because bump ... ;-)
Could you put that in a font that’s legible?
I told you awhile ago not to contact me about your complaints about these. Seems you forgot.
Sorry. I thought you might want someone to actually be able to read your message.
Have a nice day.
this is very good news.
1-baucusis in trouble in 2010. (even better news- he is not alone rats going down with the ship.)
2- if anybody ever questions the bias in the msm, all youhave to do is compare
vitter and baucus.
How cozy . . . in a sick, perverted, political payback kind of way.
This would seem to be as bad as, if not worse, than Ensign’s affair.
But it probably won’t get covered the same. Any elected official who has an affair and then uses his public office to pay the woman off should be removed from office.
Ensign was castigated for using his own money to pay a woman. If Baucus paid the woman with a public job, that should get him removed.
I’m in Montana and haven’t heard word one about this until now. Of course I don’t read the local papers but you can be sure every Montanan on my list will hear about this. Thanks.

Thanks for the heads up on this one, Clintonfatigued.
Huh? Doesn't this make him even MORE sleazy?
LOL. It sure makes his spokesman look silly.

Melodee Hanes - Max Baucus's roomie
No mention of the fact that this is his second wife he just got divorced from.
What a Tiger!
(heehee)
LOL.
Where is there a single human being in Congress that is out there screaming:
“THE CULTURE OF CORRUPTION IS OPEN UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT.”
Perhaps not but his daughter-in-law Stephanie Denton Baucus is. Wonder how Baucus' former wife is feeling about now.
Max Baucus was reelected last year. He’s not up for reelection until 2014.
Thanks for the ping!
Did you see this ping?
Dear MSM,
This is at least on a par with anything John Ensign did.
Hatefully yours
Impy
It certainly doesn’t surprise me.
Harriet Meyers look alike!
