Palin to face another ethics battle By Tony Romm - 12/05/09 09:35 AM ET
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) faced yet another ethics complaint on Friday: This time, for allegedly using state resources "for partisan political purposes" during the 2008 campaign.
Under state law, elected officials may not "use or authorize the use of state funds, facilities, equipment, services, or another government asset or resource" for campaigning, stumping or politicking.
But Palin, argues Andree McLeod -- a local activist who has filed many ethics complains against the former Alaska governor -- sought political advice from her staff and asked her office to help her arrange media interviews or phone conversations leading up to Election Day, all using their government-issued e-mail addresses.
According to the Alaska Department of Administration, the use of e-mail is key: That medium, too, counts as a state resource, meaning Palin's e-mail exchanges with her gubernatorial staff about national campaign strategies could have violated the state's election law.
"State employees are prohibited from using the state e-mail system or using other state equipment, including fax machines, telephones, computers, or copiers, for partisan political purposes," the department's commissioner told The Huffington Post. "However, if you receive such a message, you may respond that Alaska law forbids your use of state equipment for partisan political purposes and ask that the sender not send you further messages concerning campaign activities."
Palin has long struggled to battle back ethics claims stemming from her tenure as governor -- an expensive problem, her allies note, that in part triggered her unexpected resignation earlier this year.
Nevertheless, many of those chargers have since been dropped.
Jeeze! After seeing that picture no pig or goat would have her!
"I'm warning you...I ATE the last person who disagreed with me!"
A woman like her will naturally have a LOT of free time on her hands...when she's not eating.
A Fox reporter put it best;.......... “Gov. Palin is beautiful, accomplished, smart, has strong convictions and conservative values, a deep belief in God and Jesus Christ, a happy family life, has a handsome, down-to-earth husband and beautiful kids who love her.
These are all the reasons for unhappy, mean-spirited, frumpy, trivial women with big gaping pathetic holes in their lives to hate her she reminds them of the major deficiencies in their own lives and theyre worried that if compared to her by others, they wont measure up. Just looking at her makes them feel insignificant. Palin makes them feel threatened and insecure, so of course, she must be brought DOWN. Like a rabid dog.” She was referring to the subject woman in this Post.
Just wondering why you think Palin did something wrong based on a single complaint by this pig of a woman?
Sarah has plenty of income and donations to push just 1 seriously expensive case - plenty to finish these attacks.
When McCloud pays for it, she'll stop.
Back during the campaign I read somewhere that this woman wanted to get back at Palin for not giving her (or maybe someone in her family) a job in the Governor’s office. Petty office politics at it’s finest.
The falafel lady strikes again. It’s gonna be up to Alaskans to put a stop to this foolishness and colossal waste of state resources. So far they’ve shown no interest in putting an end to it.
Would someone please put this POS in a rubber room. She confirms, once again, that the world would be a better place if we eliminated 50% of the population.
Jealousy rears it's ugly head and I do mean Ugly!
I have no idea if Palin did anything wrong or not with regards to the issue of this complaint. That will be determined in due process should it get that far. My only point is that you’d think the campaign would have made an overt effort to keep the two seperated. I suspect they did but slip ups can occur and the trail of evidence will or will not be there.
Yes I think this woman has been the thorn in Palin’s side with filing most of the complaints, maybe all. A politician faces this at times much like Tom DeLay did with Ronnie Earle prosecutor in Austin Tx. It’s expensive and has to be dealt with.
At the risk of mixing legal jurisdictions, Al Gore dialed for campaign dollars from the West Wing. That is a proven fact, and that little bit of illegality was permitted without triggering any of the many laws that prohibited such activities.
With Democrat ties to SEIU the 'misuse of government resources' charge could be made against ANY Democrat in ANY election.
Speaking of Tom Delay, was he ever convicted of any of the charges brought by Earle or Abramnoff?
i will be voting PALIN in 2012,either by pulling the lever or write in. Nobody else gets my vote. Nobody.
If people file complaint after complaint and tie up state resources doing so,then they should be held liable to some extent when the complaints are dismissed.
No and as far as I know none have ever reached the court room. Earle resigned/retired a couple years ago but offered to help the new DA with the case if he proceeded with it. I guess in some sense it’s still actived but nothing happening as far as I know.
Who’s paying the freight on the lovely Andree’s legal costs?
Soros? ACORN? Planned Parenthood?
