An EPA power grab: CO2 ruling a sure job-killer
NY Post ^ | December 8, 2009 | IAIN MURRAY & MARLO LEWIS

Environmental Protec tion Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson yesterday an nounced that the EPA has determined that global warming, allegedly caused by mankind's burning of fossil fuels, endangers public health.

The finding paves the way for a huge power grab by EPA bureaucrats -- indeed, more power than even they think they can handle: The likely regulatory cascade will end up with the EPA having complete control over the nation's energy supply and its use.

Large apartment buildings and hospitals would need EPA operating permits to continue running their furnaces. Lawnmowers and aircraft alike would be regulated for fuel economy like automobiles. And as the EPA orders a retooling or even closure of the nation's power plants, electricity prices would skyrocket, and blackouts would become common.

And yet Potomac Bob (Gibbs) maintains this isn't what Obama wants. Obama is, once again, trying to stand apart from his policies while at the same time telling Congress if they don't pass Cap and Trade, the EPA will make it much worse. This is thuggery and blackmail.

This is terrible, and it’s the way Bambi is achieving many things that are too extreme even for the approval of Congress.

He can get virtually all the things he wants through the existing regulatory agencies. How in the world can this be stopped?

Perhaps I’m in error, but I see this action as a blatant assault upon the separation of powers, thus our Constitution.

One can implicate the assault on the EPA, but it appears to me as the EPA operations are under the influence of the Executive branch, therefore this move is totally Obama’s whether he ducks in the closet to hide from the responsibility of this action, or not.

Congress could stop this by amending the Clean Air Act or denying funding to the EPA to enforce these regulations, but the will is not there. We need Congress to reign in Obama and that is not likely.

I think this has been planned for some time. Bambi appointed the current head of the EPA, one Lisa Jackson, on January 23. She was in charge of a similar state environmental department under Gov. Corzine. She lists “climate change” as one of her big interests, and was involved in “multicultural environmental outreach,” whatever that is.

One of the things that Obama and the gang did right away was appoint radical supporters to the various agencies that operate lethally but quietly in the unscrutinized darkness of the bureaucracy. Congress had to approve some of them, but this was routine, in most cases. However, it was clearly his plan all along to use these agencies to make an end run around Congress for things that Obama, Ayers, et al, thought might be too radical to stand public debate.
