Avon and Somerset Constabulary has begun to equip its female officers with a uniform issue hijab to wear when they enter a mosque.
The £13 headscarves are embroidered with the West Country force's name and logo, and come in two colours — black for police officers and blue for community support officers. A spokeswoman insisted that they were not intended purely to cater for Muslim cultural sensibilities but were multi-faith.
"They are designed to be used in any place of worship and can be used to cover the head or the shoulders. For example, plain clothes officers could use them to cover their shoulders in a Catholic Church, or they can be used to cover the head in synagogues," she said.
The scarves were however developed in a joint project with the Aklima Initiative, which focuses on working Muslim women, and the Mosque Initiative - both Islamic groups.
The scheme is believed to be a first for the British police. The Metropolitan Police, the largest and most diverse UK force, said that it issued headscarves to its Muslim female officers but not to non-Muslim officers.
"We have had these scarves for Muslim female officers for some time, but as far as officers going into mosques — if it was appropriate for them to wear a scarf they would do that. But I don't think there are any plans to issue 15,000-odd officers with a headscarf," a Met Police spokeswoman said.

When Barack went on tour of the middle east, he told us such scarves were completely voluntary. So why should the lowly kufir have to wear them inside a mosque?
Why would they mention covering the shoulders in a Catholic church? There aren’t any “rules” about dress in a Catholic church or in public.
I understand that they are also made to go naked when visiting a Gardnerian witch coven just to be broad minded and all that. They are not Muslims so making them wear a head scarf is as silly and degrading as any sarcastic thought we can come up with.

Granted, women with bare shoulders and high skirts are asked to cover themselves when entering a catholic church. And when would police women be wearing such garb????? This is utter, utter BS. Voluntarily accepting dimmitude.
A female US military person (branch I can’t remember) sued, and won, authority NOT to wear the coverings when she left a US base in Saudi.
PS: Men wearing shorts and tank tops are given skirts to wear to cover their knees and have to borrow a shirt also, when visiting the Dome of the Rock. And don’t forget about having to take off your shoes when you enter a mosque OR a “holy place”. The Dome of the Rock is NOT a mosque, BTW.

Yes. It was very telling when Hillary adopted the "optional" headscarf that Obama told us about and yet his wife did not choose to wear or not wear the scarf, she skipped that part of the tour and partied with the President in Europe instead.

Right, but officers in the UK don’t go around in open shoulder blouses. Seems silly that they would use that as an excuse. It’s very weak.
