Patrick takes gutsy drive down NASCAR road
Yahoo Sports ^ | Dec 8, 2009 | Jay Hart

It’s a bold move

considering where Patrick sits now – the unquestioned face of a sport who commands the attention of sponsors ranging from a domain name registration website to a private jet service provider. Where she is now, she’s making millions, placed atop a high pedestal with no one in sight to knock her off.

That is what makes this move so gutsy.

She’s going to find out that throwing her hissy fits in the NASCAR pits won’t fly.

Patrick does this, Patrick does that , It’s all we will hear at NASCAR next year.

Still I believe she can probably beat Jr.s record this year.

We will just get tired of the hype.

There’s more money to be made in NASCAR.

The vast majority of money made by NASCAR racing teams doesn’t come from winning races, it comes from sponsorships. There is no risk here for her. As the only female NASCAR racer she’ll pull in tons of sponsor money. Win or lose.

You scream around a 2.5 mile oval at 250+MPH in a fragile, open wheeled race car, where one mistake can end you life. Well, guts is one thing you should have in good supply.

She will make a lot of cash marketing to the NECKCAR folks.

From another article:

“It’s all part of a master plan. She will make her stock car debut in the ARCA race at Daytona on Feb. 6, the day before she appears in two GoDaddy.com commercials during the Super Bowl.

GoDaddy.com CEO Bob Parsons is investing millions here, including the two-year deal to sponsor the No. 5 Cup car of Mark Martin. The plan is obvious. Martin drives two more years, then hands over the 5 car to Patrick in 2012.”

The money is already in the bank.

I was definititly not one of her fans. But this is ‘a gutsy move’, and her stature has went up in my view.

Dude, the act itself was reward enough.

But if you insist; here's a penny 0. I think it's worth about .025% of a dollar.

I don’t see why not. Many of the male drivers throw hissy fits in NASCAR pits already.

I say just let her drive.. she bomb she bombs.. she runs top 20, look out early on.. she’ll be spreading herself around a lot with all the driving. More power to her if she can pull it off.

F1 is run by a bunch of prissy self absorbed snobs. I have no interest in F1. Never went out to "The Track" when F1 was here in Indy.

There is no crying in NASCAR (baseball). What race did this chick win? Huh? Some rice in Japan where nobody noteworthy even was entered. SO she beat a bunch of never was guys that had minor support. Kinda like beating up on The Little Sisters of the Poor. A lot of hoopla over nothing.

CholeraJoe,
I have NEVER asked anyone for an autograph in my life.
5 years ago I had atty Waggstaff sign a photo of her in her Extra and I thought, WOW.
Then I was told she was a les bean.
Damn disappointed.
Not that Danica, well never mind.

"she’ll be spreading herself around a lot with all the driving."

She's gonna be the female version of Tiger Woods in NASCAR?

Sorry....mind in gutter.

I didn't know that. Some time back she had a husband. Maybe he was just “for show”, although I thought they had been married for some time.

What race did this chick win?

She won the Indy Car Japan race in 2008. She placed 3rd in the 2009 Indianapolis 500. She finished the 2009 season 5th overall in the point standings, her highest finish to date. This 5th place finish was not only the highest of any of the Andretti Autosport drivers, but of any non-Penske or Ganassi driver for the 2009 season

If you follow the Indy League there are 2 dominate 2 car teams. She won the also rans which is quite a feat.

She may fall flat on her face but I say give her a shot. It took Juan Montoya 3 years to come up to speed in NASCAR. Some never did.

I cant say as I blame you. First they make all the cars run the same speed, then they make all the cars alike, there isnt a “stock car” amongst them and now they will hypoe this woman every time she races.
