Unredacted TSA Manual Leaked Online
CBS ^ | 12/9/2009 | Staff

Posted on 12/09/2009 5:38:48 AM PST by Red in Blue PA

It was a security breach and a big embarrassment for the Transportation Security Administration. A secret manual that tells airport screeners around the country how to do their jobs somehow wound up on line for all the world to see.

It detailed who should be screened, how often bags are checked for explosives, how to deal with CIA agents traveling with high-value intelligence assets - even provided images of various special identification cards, as CBS News correspondent Bob Orr reports.

The breach reveals some of the government's most sensitive aviation security secrets. A 93-page manual prepared for federal airport screeners shows samples of law enforcement and official credentials - federal air marshals, CIA officers, and members of Congress - IDs which criminals or terrorists could copy.

Bruce Schneier is going to have a field day with this. Now we’ll see how much of this is “Security Theater” rather than actual security.

“I’m a small red headed grandma”

That’s it! It’s the red hair. Everyone knows when there’s trouble it’s the red headed kid who’s at fault.

(I was a natural red head...flamingred... and yes, WAS...sigh. For some reason, in my day, red heads got blamed for everything.)

> Maybe one day I will find that manual online,

The MSM has heard you and, as a matter of Patriotic Duty, has made your search for the Manual easy.

All you need do is go to the article, where they provide you a handy link to the Unredacted Manual itself. It is a zip file and you can download a copy for your very own — and then satisfy yourself as to the reason why they keep checking you.

I downloaded a copy for my very own — if the Bad Guys are going to have access to this information, then I certainly want it, too.

Wouldn’t it be nice if the MSM instead had quietly and patriotically noted the manual’s availability online and quietly alerted the TSA and the FBI, saying nothing that could give additional aid and comfort to the Enemy?

I guess that’s expecting a bit much tho, ay.

Wow! 93 pages to discuss how to manage the lunch schedule for TSA staff. That’s impressive.

It's the government - that's how things are done. The government assumes that like Senators and representatives, the general public is too stupid to empty water out of a boot with instructions on the heel so they write up these excessive procedures on how to do so, with the requirement that you read and remember those procedures prior to your boot-dumping mission.

Thanks! I hadn’t bothered to go there and read the entire article—thought I’d read enough with just the excerpt.....

Yes, but is your hair REALLY red, or are you traveling under false pretenses?

No, it's posted on cryptome.org, the cat is so far out of the bag there isn't any point in whacking CBS over this.

Security through obscurity isn't actually security, anyway.

The MSM played down Climategate leaks - they didn't want the public aware of what corrupt scientists were saying to each other. They were ready to shoot the messenger - how dare someone release comments by "esteemed" researchers? ( even if they were lying and those lies would bankrupt the world)

I'll bet they don't feel the same about this leak - one that endangers all Americans. Nope, they'll be screaming this one from all their newscasts - front pages, and web sites. It's telling - think about it.

Agreed, tho’ on that basis we might as well toss out all PINs, passwords and pass-phrases because they rely upon obscurity in order to function.

CBS didn't work at spreading the global warming alarmist's emails... CBS tried to put the lid on the stories about liberal scientists lying.

Can you explain that?

My take is CBS loves the lying "scientists" and hates the FBI and CIA and all the men and women who protect us.

That is funny! I also am a redhead and have been pulled over way too many times, to be just coincidental.
Gotta be the hair!

I was born a redhead, and it looks like I will die a redhead, as my hair is still almost the same color as when I was born. I don’t know why that is—it just is.

I don’t think I would ever have the patience to try to put hair color in my hair. It just wouldn’t be my “thing”—LOL!

As a public service for those who don't want to search the article for the doc in question, you may mash HERE. I need to find a copy of the redacted version so as to compare. Should be funny to see what they think we shouldn't know.

Shoulda known that Cryptome.org would have the redacted copy as well. If you download the clean version, everything in red boxes is what was redacted.

It looks like there are two sites for this manual that I've come across so far, but I'm sure there are more...

TSA Screening Manual (zip file) from Cryptome website

From WikiLeaks (PDF file on web page)
