Genesis 25

21 Isaac prayed to the LORD on behalf of his wife, because she was barren. The LORD answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant. 22 The babies jostled each other within her, and she said, "Why is this happening to me?" So she went to inquire of the LORD.

23 The LORD said to her,
"Two nations are in your womb,
       and two peoples from within you will be separated;
one people will be stronger than the other,
and the older will serve the younger."

24 When the time came for her to give birth, there were twin boys in her womb. 25 The first to come out was red, and his whole body was like a hairy garment; so they named him Esau. [e] 26 After this, his brother came out, with his hand grasping Esau's heel; so he was named Jacob. [f] Isaac was sixty years old when Rebekah gave birth to them.

27 The boys grew up, and Esau became a skillful hunter, a man of the open country, while Jacob was a quiet man, staying among the tents. 28 Isaac, who had a taste for wild game, loved Esau, but Rebekah loved Jacob.

29 Once when Jacob was cooking some stew, Esau came in from the open country, famished. 30 He said to Jacob, "Quick, let me have some of that red stew! I'm famished!" (That is why he was also called Edom. [g] )

31 Jacob replied, "First sell me your birthright."

32 "Look, I am about to die," Esau said. "What good is the birthright to me?"

33 But Jacob said, "Swear to me first." So he swore an oath to him, selling his birthright to Jacob.

34 Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and some lentil stew. He ate and drank, and then got up and left.
      So Esau despised his birthright.

There's no use bailing water out of a sinking ship.

Remind me never to go to sea with you.

Your stance, in my opinion, is more the equivalent of ripping the hole in the bottom of the boat wider, making it much more difficult for those who are trying to keep the ship from sinking from ever saving the vessel and its passengers.

Tough question. If we don’t legally take it, a liberal WILL. That enables them to use the money to further their life and brag to their friends that “the government” helped them. Maybe we should take the money and just buy guns.

If you have a valuable service to offer and can get funded with grants then go for it.

While what you are saying makes sense, I try to stay as far away from the gub’mint as possible! LOL.

Especially now with the Lyin’ King in charge.

You're assuming that the vessel can be saved. I'm assuming, based on 6 years of socialist republican control followed by the marxists that we now have, that it cannot. I hope to be proven wrong, but my faith in the American people is quite weak these days.

We had a choice several years ago, socialism or prosperity. The country chose socialism.

Probably wise. I'm just sympathetic to most musicians' problems with steady incomes.

If this current form of government wants to give me $12,000 to fix up my house, I will take it, since it represents about 1% of the tax I have paid to the federal government over the course of my working life.

But I know damn well there is NO WAY they will ever hand me, a straight white 50 year old male, any money at all for anything. They only take.

Whether or not I’m right or not it isn’t like we have a choice. We must fight to fulfill our Constitution’s ultimate stated purpose: “To secure the Blessings of Liberty to Posterity.”

YOu're right. But we all need to stop the destruction by voting out the bastards who came up with these Faustian bargains.

The left has shredded the constitution - it no longer applies. Witness the EPA deciding that CO2 is a pollutant. They have NO constitutional authority to do so, but they have done it.

There is only one way to get back to our constitutional republic and if we don't do it soon, those willing to fight the good fight will be long gone.

It's time to scuttle this errant craft.

Well, you'll kill the pirates, that's for sure. But the passengers go down too.

I'll keep fighting to secure the Blessings of Liberty to my Posterity, thank you very much.

Sorry. EPA "won" that right in a 5-4 SCOTUS Decision. BTW, the data they presented in that case was false. Should go back to court.

When was the last time that the leftist supreme Court rendered a decision in favor of the constitution? This certainly wasn't such a case.

The difference between social security and some of these new "gimme" programs:

People have been paying hundreds a month into social security for years. It's natural to think you should get that back.

Cash for clunkers and this sickening new environmental entitlement being talked about are coming from money that is just not there and never will be and no one has paid in to.

I'm surprised by the number of people on this thread who are so unprincipled as to want to take all the federal money Obama wants to give them. Really surprised.

Okay - don’t take the money, but also don’t buy from the auto companies or other companies for which these immoral giveaways were created. If Obama wants to give away our children’s money, make sure the companies he wants to help suffer and die because of Obama’s immorality.

I'm surprised you ascribe some "principle" to recieving money from Social Security. The payments are taxes, just like any other. The "benefits" are government largess, just like any other. To accept from social security is no more or less principled than taking any money offered by the federal government.

I would go further and say that, if the original poster is serious, Social Security would be the first place to start to refuse government payments. See how far that gets you - even among so-called conservatives.
