I've yet to waste my first eight bucks on a movie this year.
I pay only one dollar to watch a movie some 3 to 6 months after it's been shown at the theater. That's what it costs to rent a movie from Redbox. I've even cut the cost of my cable movie viewing by removing the movie channels from my bill. I can watch 10 - 20 recent releases per month for $10-20. Blockbuster is going broke because I don't visit them anymore.

Saw the new Clooney film, “Up in the Air” last week (only playing in NY and LA until Christmas). Good, but not worth $11.50.

After falling asleep in Carrey’s “Grinch” I’ve decided to boycott anything by the Canuck.

Talk about wanting have their cake and eat it too!
Studios feel pinch of slowing DVD sales, rise in rentals
If you're buying fewer DVDs and renting more of them -- especially from automated Redbox kiosks -- you've got the Hollywood studios scared.
The studios know that DVD sales have been in decline since at least 2005. Now, however, a depressed economy, convenient rental options and emerging technology have combined to worsen the situation.
Personally, I can't wait to see any of them go bankrupt. Produce total, leftist krapTM and they deserve to have the free market public stay away in droves.

Well, a minor warning is that The Fantastic Mr. Fox steals and kills chickens. As he says, he’s a fox. He can’t help it. But the factory farmers are so mean and nasty, who would mind? Anyway, there were a lot of little kids there, including my two and four year old grandsons, and no one seemed to be freaked out.
It’s actually about the animal community getting together when they are cornered, about family relationships, about how their son learns to get along with his much brighter cousin who comes to stay with them, and so on. The husband and wife have issues (she doesn’t want him risking his life stealing chickens), but they work all these problems out in the end.

Maybe Fantastic Mr. Fox—see #48. Roald Dahl is not for every taste, but our family loved it.

A Christmas Carol w/ Jim Carrey was worth 8 bucks. Concur. I was able to see it in IMAX 3-D, but I hear that some of the effects were effective in regular projection too.

For adults that want richer fare than these popcorn movies (which are fun), I suggest two Criterion Blu-Ray's:

One word: diversification.
But, now I know where all of my Blockbuster money ended up.

“Fantastic Mr. Fox” was actually an American film.

Do you mean the old film with Alaister Sim? Yes, thanks for the correction. It was called "Scrooge" in England and re titled "A Christmas Carol". 1951 issued. I note old BBC favourite George Cole who played young Scrooge apparently still alive at 84 years of age.
