I believe the correct term is "earn". Since you have no idea what I do or how hard I work, don't you dare assume that I'm a "typical" government employee.

1) I don't make near the $75k discussed in the article. In fact, other than upper management, no one in the facility (500+) earns over 60k

2) In the aforementioned facility, there are a few slugs - a higher percentage than you will see in private firms. There are a LOT of affirmative action hires, as well as a large number of disabled veterans. Those two groups are immune to termination. It was that way long before I got there, and won't change until the union is neutered.

3) Since I have been a government employee (3yrs), we have received a whopping 2.5% raise (total, not per year), along with 2-3 COLA increases. Not exactly getting rich here............

4) This is Free Republic. You are allowed to call for the firing of all government employees if you like. Just remember that there are a lot good hard working conservatives working there too. You want to get rid of the slugs? ME TOO! You want to make things better, restore a little accountability, and get smiling, competent people into the various departments? ME TOO. Until all of that happens, I don't think I should resign my position and take one in the private sector (where I spent 27 of my 30 working years)for half the money, no benefits, and no upward mobility just to make a few freepers happy.

5) I can't and won't defend the sloth of others; I won't defend the Federal Government for its hiring practices, its horrible management, or its total lack of oversight. I will, however, defend MY work, My record, and MY JOB. After all, that is the only part of it that I control.

6) I guess it would really piss ya'll off if you knew that my wife works for the State Government here in Tennessee. That makes us double eeeeeevil.

Have fun with this - I gotta get some sleep so I can put in 10 more hours tonight in paradise

I'm wide awake and only slightly stupid, but I'm brighter on a bad day than most on a good one. I do not drink alcohol.

Don't give me this cockn'bull crap that it's the voters fault for the government at all levels being ever expanding and corrupt.

In case you haven't noticed, Congress appropriates the money, then institutes spending rules that encourage "spend it or lose it" tactics. It just rolls downhill from there. Yes, there is corruption, overspending, and mismanagement at ALL levels of Government. What can you or I do about it? .............Not too damn much. Could Congress (if we had a real citizen legislature) budget differently, cut back on funds, perform oversight, audits, and reduce staffing? Why yes, yes they could. It'll never get better 'till the money stops flowing.

Yes, the stupid little juvenile game you started is getting tedious.

Tell you what, if you ever get your GED and some how stumble upon the knowledge necessary to understand how the government works, you let me know.

If your referring to the Free Republic in-house wing of the pro big gov lobbyist...There here...No doubt about that... lol.

Ya just can't deal with these people. The bottom line here for our in-house non-military/national defense pro big gov employees, was to blame others from within the government...

Then after they suggested the government employees salaries are sky high, they say it's because big gov hires the highly skilled, those with advanced degrees...No kidding.

When asked while our country/economy slides into a buring pit, what all these highly skilled government workers with advanced degrees doing....None of these big gov supporters would answer.

Ya can't get a straight legitimate answer from these bloated government hacks.

What mistakes? The IRS never makes mistakes. You just do not understand their interpretation of the tax code. I know from experience that their interpretation of the tax code is as fickle as their moods.

It took me one hour (fast for them) to straighten out a client's account in Mississippi who had paid all their income taxes in 2007 in full and on time.

When the geniuses couldn't find an account with her name on it they invented one. The payments were hanging out in an account one digit off from her social security number and they had placed a lien on that account! Don't ask me who received the lien for a tax overpayment but it wasn't my client although she did get a notice. WHAT A MESS!

The first person I spoke to over a month ago named Linda told me that she would fix it and call me back. Well, she didn't. I called again and got another Linda who eventually did fix it but she said the first so-called Linda must have used her name because she was the only Linda in her department. It is so comforting to know there is a fraud working there!/s

What most people don't understand is that government workers are getting huge compensation through defined benefits AKA pension plans. Many government workers get $100K for life which is the same as getting $2 million dollars. This is especially true of school superintendents, and elected public officials.

A $70K worker who gets $50K for the rest of their life is getting $1 million dollars which is not so bad if they work 20 years to get it. $1 million over 20 years is the same as $50K a year over their regular pay. You have to throw Interest and Inflation in the mix but the way governments invest that's pretty close to zero. The problem is that you can work 4 years for an obscure board or get elected to water commissioner and get a huge pension plus health care for life. News channels are too stupid to figure out how much that really is. When governments say they are broke, its often pension plans that are doing them in.

If you are a rocket scientist working for NASA you get paid dirt. But if you are a bailiff for a federal court you get pretty close to the same thing. The trick is to work for the federal government if you are not educated and get a real job somewhere else if you are.
