State and university employees could wind up with IOUs in their pay envelopes instead of checks in February if the planned sale of state buildings hits a snag, state Treasurer Dean Martin warned Monday.
And that could leave worker with a piece of paper that wont help them buy food for their families, pay the mortgage or heat their homes.

If you’re not actually being paid, you need to file for Unemployment Insurance (UI) as that would probably constitute a temporary layoff.
What's more, you can even find a significant minority of conservative professors on their faculty. The result is that degrees from either actually mean something to businesses in this area because they know the kids who graduate have actually been exposed to some real world viewpoints.
I'm sure these aren't the only such colleges in the nation. I just think it is interesting that we have two of them in one county.
Wasn’t there a caller on the Glenn Beck show the other morning that said his bank put a 9 day hold on his California university paycheck?
You've just answered the why wont they privatize question with that statement. The left would lose control, especially when results matter.
I read a while ago that in Colorado, when they first starting making serious cuts, the pols went out of their way to say education would be spared.
Well, it didn’t work out that way, but it did clearly illustrate just where their interests lie. As Rothbard has long pointed out, the Left needs the intelligensia to pull off their agenda, and the intelligensia will return the favor as long as the money flows their way.
As we head for a certain crash and subsequent self-immolation, it should be interesting to see how this angle plays itself out.
My guess is the “Intelligensia”, such as it is today, will stick with them till the very end, or until violent revolution shakes the foundations of the country - which ever comes first.

I like this idea; the check will be honored when the education is provided...
I work at a major state university in Texas and we are not having the problems that Arizona is having. Even though state revenues are down some due to the recession, the state government wisely established a rainy day fund years ago which is helping to cover certain things. At my university, enrollment is up due to the recession. Many people are going back to school to upgrade their skills and knowledge. Texas does a pretty good job holding the line during the bad times. Maybe some positions go unfilled for a longer period of time, but we make due and every year there is some money available for merit increases during our annual evaluations, even if it is fairly modest.
....will people ever learn.....
.....there is a case study of what happens when radical leftists get a lot of power in the pitiful plight of Zimbabwe. Its there for everybody to study..and learn from.
I mean, there's every liberal disaster in the book there....a once robust exporting economy destroyed, stolen farms, with the "new owners" eating the seeds for the next crops, failed "wealth transfer", failed banks, failed businesses, hunger, extreme poverty, hyperinflation, and an "elitist" ruling class living in relative, in-your-face luxury....
...and the really bad part is that we, right here in river city, have people in charge with exactly the same mentality and agendas as Mugabe.
Obama....Mugabe...the same guy half as old....from the same place.
So did we, but we spent it...thanks, Janet...
