One other observation on the bronze vase you posted. Compare-and-contrast the nicely chiseled abs on the Dearly Departed with his relatively-puny Wedding Tackle.

Now, speaking personally, were someone to immortalize me for all time on a bronze vase, I know what *I* would prefer them to exaggerate! And yet, on the Dearly Departed, they instead chose to make sure he had well-defined abs...

This thought tends to lend further credence to the notion that the rippling muscles on the Dearly Departed might not be too much of an exaggeration. Important enough for the artist to make sure we understood: this guy had six-pack abs. And the wedding tackle... not so much.

Yes, someone else above noted the small dinglebob, too. It’s rather an odd element, especially since his father was the notoriously randy Zeus!

Maybe the artist was working from a model with a small (ahem)? Or maybe it’s because the fellow is dead. Would that cause shrivellage? I’ve never seen a dead, naked man, and I’d prefer not to!

Shrivellage LOL!!! That’s classic and will be remembered for all time. I can’t wait to find a good excuse to use that one!

I can’t say I’ve ever seen a dead naked man either. I’m sure they must exist, but I haven’t seen any. Not too keen to, either!

......Women have always been attracted to REAL men, not sissies or girly men......

That is a Darwinian statement. Survival of genes is a battle among individuals and the fittest prevail. Those who best protect children are perceived as the best mates.

If that were true then Nature would be full of lesbians and all species would die out. As Kipling so aptly wrote, “the female of the species is more deadly than the male”, and for all the reasons that he gave.

I forgot to add, I’m very sorry for your loss of your father-in-law. Please convey my sincere sympathies to Mrs. DieHard. I’m very fortunate to still have my father, Alzheimer’s Disease and all. He’s 73, and a veteran of 27 years in the US Navy, including 2 tours in Vietnam.

Does Australia observe the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe?

Oh, Zot! I meant New Zealand! I was just on a thread about Australia a second ago, and I had a mental burp. *beats head on desk*

That’s an excellent question, to which I do not know the answer. We do not celebrate it as a Nation, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Church celebrated it. I shall ask, next time I see the Priest, and report back...

(as you can probably guess, it has been a little while since I have seen the inside of the church. No excuse.)

I’ll do some research over the weekend and find out if New Zealand (or Australia, why now?) celebrates Our Lady of Guadalupe. There’s some relevance ... the colonial thing, New World and so on. On the other hand, there may be another observance that’s more immediately connected to the Antipodal experience.

Tatsuya Nakadai. See ‘Sword of Doom’. He’s a b*d*ss and it’s thought to have inspired the ending to Bruce Lee’s Fist of Fury.

Bruce Lee was Chinese, btw.

I thought of those old paintings of the kids with the big, sad eyes.

Thanks for the info.

Bruce Lee was American, born of Chinese parents. My money would be on him over Nakadai any day.

(You didn’t specify Japanese actors, just actors in general)

The British did a survey of soldiers in WWI and found the upper class was 5 inches and 15 pounds bigger than commoners.

In one of my books on Greece and Rome, I read that they preferred small pee pees. No reason given.

One exception was one of the last crazy emperors(I forget who) liked his men well hung. It was the one, who liked to dress like a woman and work in the brothels with them.
