Now the fourth Democrat to announce his retirement in four weeks, Rep. Bart Gordon (D-Tenn.) said this morning in a released statement that he will not run for re-election next year.
Gordon, a moderate Democrat from a Republican-leaning district, follows three other Democratic congressmen in similar political situations -- Brian Baird (WA-3), John Tanner (TN-8), and Dennis Moore (KS-3). President Obama won Moore and Baird's districts in 2008, but both were also won by President Bush in 2004.
"Turning 60 has led me to re-evaluate what's next," Gordon said in a statement. "I have an 8-year-old daughter and a wonderful wife who has a very demanding job. I am the only child of my 83-year-old mother, Margaret. They have made sacrifices to allow me to do what I love by serving in Congress, and now it's my turn."

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not the most liberal Dem in Congress, but a “moderate” who was headed for a tough race next year in his conservative Middle Tennessee district, no matter who the GOP candidate was going to be.
Didn’t I see yesterday that Neil Abercrombie (D-HI) is retiring so that he can run for governor?
Bart is my congressman.
Thanks for the Christmas gift: his retirement.
Good news indeed!
Rats deserting a sinking ship... The writing is on the wall for those who aren’t self dilluded.
I hope Repubs in that district go to the primary and make sure we don’t get a RINO.
Rats? Ship? I’m sensing a connecting here.
connection!
Tanner’s getting out too! (He’s my rep.)
;-))))))))))))))))))))))))))
A few Dems are starting to see the handwriting on the wall.
Bart Gordon sees the “writing on the wall” in his district. His arrogant behavior at his Townhall Meeting at Vol State Community College, really ticked off voters in Sumner County.
Gordon was going to be defeated if he ran and he knows that. That is why he is retiring.
Awake, oh Field Marshal!
I am sure they are promised jobs with Obama.
The GOP has a solid and increasing chance to flip 41 seats and take back the House.
Bart Gordon was likely to lose reelection; his retirement makes the TN-06 an almost guaranteed GOP gain in 2010.
Will Lincoln Davis see the writing on the wall and announce his retirement as well (and maybe mount a kamikazee run for governor)? If Davis wants to stay in Congress, he should switch to the GOP, talk up his past conservative votes and become a vocal opponent of Obama’s agenda.
I’m thinking that my predicting of a 50-seat GOP gain may be a bit on the low side—75 looks like a real possibility.
Here’s my prediction: all of these Rat pukes have been offered positions in the Obama Administration after their last day in Congress. That’s how the Rats are going to pass healthcare reform.
We know these offices are usually held for life, rarely does someone not campaign for reelection. It must be worse than we realize behind closed doors.
God help us in our day, in Jesus name, amen.
