Breaking: Iran Test-Fires Long-Range Missile
Fox News ^ | 12/16/2009 | Fox News

Posted on 12/16/2009 12:19:29 AM PST by jcb2009

The report described the launch of an "improved Sejil 2 missile" as successful and said the missile had a range greater than 1,250 miles — putting Israel and U.S. bases in the Gulf within reach. The launch came after Israel's military intelligence chief said Tuesday that Iran is close to a "technological breakthrough" that would enable it to build nuclear weapons. Maj. Gen. Amos Yadlin said Iran has enough nuclear material for a warhead and is close to being able to build one. He didn't specify the new technology or say when he expects Iran to reach such a capability. The assessment, made in a speech, matched similar observations Yadlin has given in closed briefings to Israeli leaders. However, he rarely speaks in public, and the comments reflected Israel's deep concerns about Iran. Israel and many Western countries believe Iran is racing to develop a nuclear weapons program. Iran says its nuclear program is strictly for energy production. The U.S. and Israel have not ruled out a military strike on Iran if diplomacy over the atomic program fails. Iran has vowed to retaliate for any attack.

In related news, Iran announced the missile was for peaceful purposes only.

Russia concurred and called it “the peace missile” and promised to ship more peaceful uranium to the happy-go-lucky mullahs.

“Report: Iran test-fires improved Sejil 2 missile”

SNIPPET: “Islamic republic’s Arabic-language satellite television says tested missile has longer range than Shahab, which Iranian officials have said can reach targets 2,000 kilometers away, putting Israel and US bases in Gulf within reach”

Reuters
Published: 12.16.09, 09:55 / Israel News

SNIPPET: “Iran has successfully test-fired a long-range, improved Sejil 2 missile, state television reported on Wednesday, an announcement likely to add to tension with the West.

Al-Alam, Iran’s Arabic-language satellite television, said the Sejil missile had a longer range than the Shahab missile, which Iranian officials in the past have said can reach targets 2,000 kilometers (1,250 miles) away.

That would put Israel and US bases in the Gulf within reach.”

Meanwhile, back at home, Obeyme is closing Guantanamo:

http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=CNG.3b306542e31038bc3638f8b13efec9ae.7b1&show_article=1

Listen to how delusional these people are:

“Closing the detention center at Guantanamo is essential to protecting our national security and helping our troops by removing a deadly recruiting tool from the hands of al Qaeda,” the same official added, noting: “Today’s announcement is an important step forward as we work to achieve our national security objectives.”

OMG! I’m amazed these people actually were able to contort a rationalization as far-fetched as this??

Obama has real issues to deal with right now like flying to Copenhagen, closing Offutt Air Force Base, and grading himself. This Iranian missile test is just a distraction from this historic solid B+ presidential performance.

“Test-Fires Long-Range Missile”

So what - wait until they have a nuke to put on it?

At least this shows they do not seek the war with Israel, as some have postulated.

The Russians run an international missile safety center- if you are going to launch anything (within certain parameters) you notify them so the world will not be surprised and think it’s a nuke or a rogue.

Wonder if Iran filed the paperwork prior to launch?

I don’t see how he has much choice on this one,,,

IIRC hezzi has some 10,000? rockets in the north,,,

Who knows how many in Gaza,,,

(How many are loaded with gas/cem-wep ?)

Add in Syria,,,

They would over-load Israel’s ADA with salvo fire,,,

This would mask a launch from Iran,,,

No way the IDF could track/destroy that many targets...

did you happen to catch Bolton’s interview on Greta the other night? He’s pretty convinced if Israel is going to do something it will have to be soon - before the Russians deliver the S-300 SAMs to Iran. Makes sense . . . that’s alot of ground for the Israeli air force to cover and then have to face a sophisticated SAM network

I was thinkin’ `67 myself,,,

Bolton is spot on,,,

One type of the S-300 will carry a nuke as I read,,,

Those launchers can be set-up quick,,,

Bout 30 min. ,,,

This will be a nasty one...

From what I can tell it’s pretty close to our Nike-Hercules

system,,,(payload/range),,,

That one would carry a 30KT nuke about 100 miles,,,

The S-300 uses phased array radar,,,

Won’t be any flying under or over that system,,,

That’s from near 0 to 100,00 ft.

I gotta wonder if the crews have been training in Russia...

“I gotta wonder if the crews have been training in Russia...”

hard to tell - the Russian/Iranian relationship is a strange one. One day the Russians appear willing to join the push for international sanctions, the next day they are confirming delivery of the S-300s. I would bet at the very least there will be some Russian “advisors” coming to train the Iranians on how to use the S-300
