A bald man with a gray beard and tired eyes is sitting in his oversize Washington office, talking about the economy. He doesn't have a commanding presence. He isn't a mesmerizing speaker. He has none of the look-at-me swagger or listen-to-me charisma so common among men with oversize Washington offices. His arguments aren't partisan or ideological; they're methodical, grounded in data and the latest academic literature. When he doesn't know something, he doesn't bluster or bluff. He's professorial, which makes sense, because he spent most of his career as a professor.
He is not, in other words, a typical Beltway power broker. He's shy. He doesn't do the D.C. dinner-party circuit; he prefers to eat at home with his wife, who still makes him do the dishes and take out the trash. Then they do crosswords or read. Because Ben Bernanke is a nerd. (See pictures of Ben Bernanke's life from childhood to chairmanship.)
He just happens to be the most powerful nerd on the planet.

What a garbage tabloid is Time.
At least it wasn’t Obama...
Time’s death spiral just sped up a notch.
yeah, he jacked up interest rates to curb the “overheated” economy. Now we have “cool” one.
Honestly I think its a good thing. The last thing he wants right now is attention.
Looks to me like Time was afraid to name a leftist politician...they should be afraid.
Could be worse. Word around here yesterday was Pelosi was on the finalist list.
Every time I go to a doctor’s or dentist’s office I see Time magazines laying around and I think, “Is that worthless rag still in print?” It must be only doctors and dentists that subscribe because even the lefties I know think Time is worthless.
“Men that are above all fear, soon grow above all shame.”
Trenchard and Gordon
“Cato’s Letters” (1755)
Vol !, p. 255
Even as satirical hagiography the write-up is still a pile of crap.
What’s the second derivative on the MSM death spiral?
“Heck of a job Bennie!”
She was. I guess even Time couldn’t come up with a good enough reason to stretch her across the cover.
Wasn’t he the guy who said he was a student the Great Depression, studied it as a personal interest? Supposedly he knows exactly the whys and hows of it, and how to prevent another one.
Jeez, you wouldn’t know it by his actions...unless driving a stake thru the heart of this country was the whole idea to begin with.
Is Tylenol still legal?
Surprised it wasn’t the Obamanation.
It would only matter if Time was a real magazine.
This from the people who bought us on January 2, 1939 the 1938 man of the year, Adolph Hitler.
How did that work out TIME?
I guess they don't let him give a read with the award.
