Polygamous sect member convicted of sex assault in Texas
Associated Press ^ | Dec. 15, 2009

Eldorado, Texas » A 57-year-old member of a polygamous group raided by Texas authorities last year has been convicted of sexual assault of a child.

A Schleicher County jury in the West Texas town of Eldorado deliberated less than two hours Tuesday before convicting Allan Keate. He faces up to life in prison for his alleged so-called "spiritual marriage" to a 15-year-old girl who gave birth at age 16.

Keate was immediately taken into custody. The jury will hear more testimony before deciding his sentence.

Much of the prosecution's case relied on extensive church records seized from the Yearning For Zion Ranch in April 2008. One set of records indicated Keate had six wives, ranging in age from 17 to 49, in March 2007.

Keate is the second member of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to be convicted of sexual assault of a child in Texas.

Yeah but Fanny Alger was 14 the FIRST time he married her.

I read somewhere recently, (Todd Compton’s book, maybe?) that smith tried to institute ius primae noctis (Prima Nocte) in Nauvoo. That, being prophet (priest and king) he would have first right to other men’s plural wives the first night of the marriage.

Interesting to note, that although there is very little evidence (outside of anecdotal) for Medieval ius primae noctis, it was a popular myth in 19th century America and Europe.

I can see the hidden plural marriages (which they were for the most part at the time) being used as blackmail material.

If there was a “home test” to test sex of a baby early on, abortion would probably be permitted by these groups.

I have known women who CRIED when they had a boy.

So, you think this should be kept quiet? To what end?

Never said that it should be “kept quiet”.

Press releases describing “dangerous” recipes was yellow journalism. Plain and simple. And the State provided the details.

Have you gone to the effort to turn them in?

From the so called rights of kings and nobles during the Middle Ages...

That was showed in Braveheart...

And Joey Smith considered himself the king of the world...

So that would fit...

many documents from the LDS archives etc have been destroyed because they were embarrassing and told the ugly truth about joey and the others so we may never know the extent of the evil doings during those times...

BTW my mother used to say that the local Catholic priests demanded that right from new brides in our town..

She warned me not to marry a Catholic man...

I followed the posts back upthread and you talked about a lot of things. How was I to know which thing you thought wasn’t newsworthy?

When was the last time that the press wrote about the Tom Delay case (also still under prosecution by the state)?

They still spit on his name when they can.

There is child abuse in every community. The state made a special effort to highlight this one.

And that is something I ask “por que” about. The State fed some outragous scare stories.

Bad to hear that some kids were mistreated. Good to hear that some convictions have come of it. But it was “shooting” wrecklessly and may cost the state in the end which means it costs me.

There are 49 other states if you don’t like the way TX handles things.

Didn’t like the raid on Waco or the police assault on the camera men they invited either (footage was in the sequel to the oscar nominated film, they pounded fists on the camera man).

My problems with Texas are also regarding the things they aren’t doing, like the governor and the mayors turning a blind eye to illegal immigration and border crossings by the mexican military (telling our side to “stand down” in any armed confrontations).

My problems with Texas are also regarding the non-attention to the existence of Al Qaeda operatives in Texas.

My problems with Texas are also regarding the non-attention to naughty teachers doing much of the same as what the cultists are accused of. But like the Islamonazis, it is shrugged off as the work of lone nuts. Just like the drug smugglers aren’t “really” being protected by figures in Mexico’s crooked government.

The age of consent is 14 years old in my state, and since fornication and adultery isn’t a crime anymore, there isn’t much to be done except wait for their meth labs to explode.

In your post you mentioned “underage skanks”. I was referring to them.

It’d make the children safer. We can round them up and then sort them out.

And close Planned Parenthood. 50,000,000 abortions in the US since 1973. How many were conducted on minors who’d been molested with no reporting to law enforcement officers? We know it happens. They’ve been caught on tape.

But this would be a drastic and overreaching “solution”.

Polygamy is problematic for several reasons. It’s understandable when a tragedy causes a shortage of men. But when you have an equal male-female ratio, polygamy wastes the genetic diversity of men.

If one husband has five wives and fathers five children with each of them, you have 25 half-siblings who are unmarriageble to each other. If each of those five wives had children with her own husband, that would be 5 clans of genetically distinct individuals who could reproduce healthy offspring. How this not obvious to those people?

It’s exactly like the conundrum that faces dog breeders when many people breed to a few popular sires. In a few generations, it becomes difficult to get any genetic diversity.

“The polygamy groups have their own method of getting rid of young men. They are called the “Lost Boys of Utah”

Thank you for the link, bookmarked. More academic and religious study needs to look at polygamy, and condemn the animalistic practice.
